DS4 or P5B?

Well...

Finally, what ram do you guys recommend at the moment - again for best overclockability and value. Geil seems to be a mega favourite. Something which scares me is the speeds of these RAMS - should I just go for the highest speed or is going too high just overkill?

Cheers.

The Geil would be a good choice.

Stop spamming on every post! The people here are very helpful and will see your post and reply to it.
There's no need to add your link to every post.

I had this dilemma until I went to XS forums....

Initially, the DS3 was being raved about. Then some of the hardcore clockers began getting stability issues. And lots of stability issues ! There has been a major shift in the popularity of this board, and it is now very much slated...

People are generally saying for the Allendale chip, then go with the DS3, for the Conroe chips, get the ASUS. My mind is made up (I have read approx 100 million billion threads in the last week!) and as I have a Conroe, I am settling with the ASUS. Kinda true what they say, you get what you pay for....

Thanks for that benktlottie. I havent really looked at the mobo section at XS. I tend to hide in the cooling and case sections of the forum. I definately leaning towards the Asus now. It will still be a while until I need to order it though as im getting all the parts that won't deppreciate in value much first. If nothing better comes out in the meantime howver, ill get the Asus.

After much trawling and comparisons I think I'm settingly for:

E6400
DS4
GeIL 2GB PC6400C4 Ultra Low Latency DDR2

I want this rig to last me at least 3 years and I'm planning on OCing

Just another 2c :)

Im no expert but I doubt you would need good ram like that anyway, the geil will probally be good enough. Im going for PC2-8000 ram because Ive got the X6800 chip & before anyone moans its a waste of money it only cost me over £300 so 4ghz + here I come.

The reson I specced that ram is because im likely to ither get the Q6600 or QX6700 which will be under phase, so the ram will get pushed.

the ram wont be able to go much higher than 500 with a kentsfield
well its like this at the moment. Ive managed to push 475 from boot
with my QX6700 100% stable, and have seen 2 others at 500 with it
via clockgen.

The P5B is giving the highest FSB with the Kentsfield by far,
obviously this might change later with newer boards / revs.

So you would say the PC2-8000 ram is about right? What cooling you running the QX6700 under? I'd like to be able to see 4Ghz+

have you decided yet?

I still can't get a hold on whether the p5b-deluxe is going to give me probs with the mach2. Some people say yes, some no, some it's ok if you don't make big bios changes.
There is also a big thread regarding the c2 edition and 600 fsb if you hadn't seen it?

Stil can't decide over e6400/ds3 or e6600/p5b-d
From the benchmarks I have seen there will be no difference in games (primary use) but I do use photoshop and premiere a bit where I would see some gain.

I can get the e6600 for £209 locally as well

Sorry I thought the thread was about a DS4 not DS3, the DS4 is a totally different board with revised power and features. Don't compare it to the DS3 imo. I have found the DS4 very stable and a great design. No idea tbh about the Asus as haven't seen it.

I Have and tested DS3 and 6Q with a 6300 without doubt the 965 chipset and the Gigabyte board proberly even with a 6600 also is faster than the Asus with the right bios

I have a P5w with a 6600 which is a Typical Asus Solid, reliable board , I like it for the extra IDE and Crossfire support but all around I would say the Gigabyte DS6Q was My favorite and has exellent thermal design, I could see the DS3's cooking themselfs at high FSB's

Never could get a DS4 at the time but would think it in between the 3 and 6,
but I will say I have kept all my boards as I like them all for different reasons and all but the DS6Q are in Systems
