DS4 with 4 sticks of memory

I'm quickly running out of things try to get this configuration stable...

First of all I have to ask, *why* are Corsair marketing their memory as being compatible with this motherboard when it clearly isn't. "Compatible" means you plug it in and it works without even entering the BIOS.

</vent>

OK so it's a DS4 rev 3.3. 4 sticks of TwinX 6400 1GB.

I've set the vDIMM to +0.3v. I've tried increasing the northbridge voltage by up to +0.15v. I've also tried increasing the FSB voltage by +0.15v as well.

Nothing I do seems to make it stable. And obviously I didn't buy this system only for it to die 6 months down the line from overvolting everything... so I am *extremely* hesitant to increase the voltages any further.

And to top it off, it seems to get worse over time. I might find some "stable" settings that last for about a day. But then it will just fall over. And won't even boot Windows. So it's almost as though components are progressively being hurt in some way. Should I be worried or is it just the memory "soaking in"?

I've asked on the Corsair Support Forum and they're totally useless. They're suggesting to run the memory at 667 :D Yeah OK I'll do that, if you refund me the difference... ;)

Hi mate

Is it a DS4 you're running them in?

Mine is the CAS 5 stuff, surely this can't be causing it?

I have been trying to do MemTest but all that happens when it boots from the CD is "Loading........" and it just locks up on that screen.

Hmm, i havent tried the corsair but at one point i did have 2x512Mb Geil Value and 2x512Mb OcUK Value stuff in it so the board is fine with 4 sticks.

Does yours work ok with 2 sticks?

Everything seems faultless with 2 sticks installed (2GB).

I can't boot the system on 4 sticks (4GB) at all now, no matter what settings I try - even 667Mhz doesn't work. It simply won't POST anymore :/

I'm starting to suspect a faulty module... If only Memtest would work. Why the hell doesn't it work? Just says "Loading......."

Ive got the same problem with 4 sticks of corsair xms2 pc5400c4 in my DS4. Two sticks boot fine but four no post. I tried the corsair forums for help and they say its down to different revisions. 1 gig was bought a while back and i upgraded to 2 gig recently. All four had no problems in my old Fatality aa8xe but after the upgrade to the DS4 no joy with 4 sticks. Check the revisions on the ram and if they are different it could be your problem too. I tried to rma the board but they sent it back.

Well it seems that one of the TwinX pairs are faulty.

I took these debugging steps:

1. Insert TwinX pair #1 into slots 1 and 3 (primary)... turns on... POSTs... MemTest86+'s fine... runs Vista fine.

2. Remove TwinX pair #1.

3. Insert TwinX pair #2 into slots 1 and 3 (same slots)... press turn on button... it turns on briefly then turns off again.

So it would seem that my second pair of TwinX has died an infant death?

Rather strange that it was working for 3 days on the trot without issue and then started showing stress symptoms!

PS: I got Memtest86+ working in the end by downloading something called "Ultimate Boot CD". It works from there! :)

PPS: The RAM revisions and model numbers are exactly the same. Infact they all have the same Manufacturing Date according to CPUZ (that was a few days ago when they would all POST and boot and in fact run Vista for many hours straight)

Yes it sounds like yours should be fine. I can use either of the two pairs in either of the two channels but not the four at once, bloody picky board. I,m going to have to upgrade the ram which is something I didnt *** to do when I already have decent stuff.

Hi I have a DS3 and originally had 2 x 1 GIG of crucial ballistix pc6400 RAM in there.

It overclocked to 3.4 Gig without breakig a sweat and was stable for 48 hrs Orthos etc.

I decided to purchase 2 more GIGs of crucial ram and OMG it wont even overclock ( 3 GIG ) at all now. System is very unstable and crashes. removed the new Ram and Im back to 3.4 GIG.

Not sure if its a faulty module or the system is just unstable, RMA ing it as we speak.

I've been able to run 4 sticks of the pc5300 Ballistix fine @1000mhz in my DS3. Needed to up the vdimm a notch, but that's to be expected when overclocking 4 sticks.

I'm running 4x 1GB Geil modules in my DS4.
I'm running an original Rev. 1 DS4 with the F8 BIOS.

I'm currently running the memory on a .3v overvolt - so it's running at 2.1v.
I'm running on a FSB of 355MHz giving me an overclock to 3.2GHz.
My memory I actually run within specification (355MHz FSB so memory running at 710MHz, actually below spec in that regard).
Everything very much stable.

Good to hear, thanks guys.

I'll proceed with RMA'ing this dead pair of TwinX.

The system was running perfectly fine for 3 days and then it seems the memory barfed up... looks like an infant death to me! Probably won't be buying Corsair again after this experience with their QA...

Can you link me to your thread at Corsair?
