DS4 Won't Boot - Help!

They could quite easily release a bad batch, Tagan released a bad batch of PSU's a while ago, they were ticking, and booming in their droves, Sony released all those duff batteries etc... it happens all the time, you'll always get a bad batch of summit. :)

u know the more i read through the threads on here the more im starting to think that its the ram that I should be RMAing and not that board lol. All the reports of bad memory etc.

How long does it take to perform an RMA? (citylink collected today)

They're pretty quick. Normally a day to get there, 1-2 to test and then 1 to return. Though don't know what it will be like over xmas.

All I want is a working PC. *sniff* :(

tell me about it :( its well depressing isnt it. wish i hadnt bought around this time really cause of all the bank holidays etc its going to be weeks i can see it pff!!

hm.. just been thinkin if my board was faulty then would the CPU, ATI fan and other things still work? Cause they were spinning just no POST or BIOS.

I called OcUK tech support this morning. They were really helpful.

We tried:
- building the rig out of the case (in case of a short circuit)
- removing all non essential connectors (usb, iee 1394, hdd, sound etc.)
- reducing the load on the PSU by disconnecting the hdds and cd-rom
- resetting the bios/trying one stick at a time as before.

Nothind made any difference. It's hugely unlikely to get two sticks of dead ddr2, but that's the conclusion we came to. So I'll RMA the new memory after Xmas.

You may have to RMA your board now as well, as DDR Ram is 184pins, DDR2 is about 240pins, doubt it would be healthy putting DDR ram in a DDR2 slot. :(

I didnt get the board from OcUK but its currently being RMA'd hope it is found faulty anyway cause they might try and accuse me if It isnt lol I've heard if they don't find it faulty they start getting their **** out and charge you.

But in all honesty I havent got all the hardware to be able to test and evaluate what exactly the problem was.

Isn't this what happens when the motherboard DDR voltage is set to 1.8v and the GeIL RAM needs 2.1v to run?

Nope, the geil Ram is set to 1.8v by default, you have to go into the BIOS and manually change the settings to the correct 4-4-4-12 (as default is 5-5-5-15), and 2.1v or whatever it is, should boot fine with default settings of 5-5-5-15 and 1.8v, mine did, i didn't realise i had to change the settings manually until about a week later when i was looking at CPUZ and noticed the settings were wrong :D, but i had no problems here at all.

Could be the Geil Ram as theres been an absolute shed load of it faulty.

Just realised holy thread revival batman. :p

Ah, unfortunately mine is not even getting to the bios screen, hence changing the timings is quite impossible! :(

Thanks anyway, always good to know what other peopel have tried. ;)
