Bit of history, joined the army in 97, super fit could run a mile and half in under 8 minutes. In 2006 I smashed my patella in quite a few pices and but on a stack of weight, got to 128kg and felt awful, lost 6 kg with just normal living and lots of beer.

On 19 Aug I weighed in at 122.5kg and started my training, I have concentrated on CV with some weights.

Today I weighed in at 118.5kg, training 4-5 days a week, inc some swimming, diet is okay I think, I have a health cereal with 0 fat milk, soup, and whole meal roll for lunch, then something with chicken for tea, lots of wraps as I can load them with veg and nice and spicy. Ill be happy at 100kg so lots of work ahead but loving the phys.

Ill update as I go.

Hope this keeps me on track.

Health cereal? What is this? Chances are it is not great for losing weight.

Same with the wholemeal roll (not too bad) and the wraps. :(

Swap them out for something like brown rice, sweet potato, etc for ultimate weightloss efficiency.

On the other hand, you're losing weight, so if you're happy carry on. :)

Healthy cereal is muesli (or glue, its a work out its self), and wraps are wholemeal, do like brown rice but it takes an age to cook compared to white rice. Never had sweat potato whats the best way to cook it, do with it?

Weigh in today 118.2kg.

Not a good week this week as lots of xmas functions, with no time to train in between, so diet is key and keep the drink to a minimum.

I lost a fair bit of weight doing this kind of diet. Hard work cutting out carbs at first but after a week or 2 you feel much better for it. Not so sluggish and tired after meals. Combined with decent training weight should come off really easily. I wasn't as strict as some people are with it but basically just ate lots of meat, veg, fruit and nuts. sweet potatoes instead of regualr, bolagnaise without the spaghetti etc.

and white wine and soda water if you fancy a drink ;)

Not sure if i want to be rigid with a set diet and would rather eat what i like but healthy. I like to eat what i want but being good and cutting out all the beer and cakes.

Curious - many people mention nuts as a snack food. Are we talking any nuts or are there some to avoid? How much in a snack portion?

Is fruit acceptable as well, if so what fruit?

Google "nut nutrition" and see what comes up.

For example, peanuts are comparatively high in fat, whereas cashews are comparatively high in protein.

A snack-sized portion is whatever you deem appropriate to your dietary goals. For example, if you're looking to crank up the mass, a snack-sized portion of nuts for me is around 5/600g (spread across a few hours, mind!). :)

And before you equate them to dried fruit, have a think about the fundamental differences between fruit and nuts: one is full of sugar the other is not. I will leave you to work out which is which, and the relative merits/demerits of each. :D

I normally go for the mixed unsalted/unsugared variety with raisins in. if your trying to lose weight then a small handful is about a portion.

berries are good if you're dieting too. fruit does contain a lot of sugars but better to be getting sugars from fruit than processed in the form of sweets, breads, or just the white granulated variety

After a couple of weeks it isn't that hard. It is worth the hard work too, dropped 3 stone with this and training hard :D

Apparently wholemeal bagels are great as well, although that's a bit bioscience, but the bro is Steedie...

Sweet potatoes, I'd mash them :) well I do :)

Well my personal favourites are unsalted cashews and have used them as a snack in the past. But tbh probably overdone the portions.
