I bought a nintendo DSi last week and have been buying a load of games of ebay

Recieved Fire Emblem Shadow dragon in the post and its the US version
Put it and I get the black screen " please press and hold the power button blah blah blah"

From reading the net it states ds games are region free. Tested it on my brothers normal Ds and it works fine

Anyone else had problems like this with their DSi?

All DS games are region free, DSi downloadable app's are the only thing that are region locked.

It's most likely you've been sold counterfeit goods, which I imagine Nintendo have prevented from working in the DSi. Get a refund from the seller, and report them to ebay.

This, I've got an American version of trauma center which works fine on my DSi, you've most likely bought a counterfeit cartridge. I'd contact ebay and get it sorted.

The thing is I tested it on my brothers Ds lite and it worked fine
Very odd. The seller has agreed to give me a full refund as he never stated on the ad it was an american version. Must be a dsi thing with some games

It will be the extra protection Nintendo added to the design of the DSi to try to prevent conterfeit cartridges and flash based cards from working.

Because the DS Lite doesn't feature the protection it'll run the dodgy card with no problems.

End of last week Nintendo put a firmware update for the dsi up
if you downloaded and installed your `cart`will no longer work
and the dsi would run `carts` until this last update
