Been having this problem for months and months now and its never got better. ISP is eclipse, Router is Thompson Speedtouch 510 using latest firmware.

The problem is, whenever I go into a game, i can play fine for 30 seconds - 5 minutes then I get kicked. I have tried all sorts of games, HL2, CSS, Diablo 2, Netsoccer, Flight Sim - the works, they all bomb out and my router disconnects. Obviously by the time i get into my router, its been reconnected for 20 seconds or so.

I share the router with my family and its bugging them when it drops as everything goes slow, or kicks them out too.

I have disabled the router firewall - makes no difference. I can only assume its my PC - but what would be doing this? I havent put any new software on, and i disabled windows firewall ages ago. I have even uninstalled my AV software AND changed router to a Netgear G834 with no success.

Looks like a format may be in order, but would changing MTU sizes or something be an easier fix? Any help appreciated.

Yes, and there are massive problems here with my CRC and HEC errors:

Uptime: 0 days, 1:11:39
Modulation: G.DMT Annex A [POTS Overlay Mode]
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 288 / 1,152
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [MB/MB]: 1.41 / 5.53
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 11.5 / 16.0
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 31.5 / 56.0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 22.0 / 18.5
Vendor ID (Local/Remote): ALCB / TSTC
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 27 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote): 27
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 9,037 / 348
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 5 / 0
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 7 / 61,495
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 9 / 17,813

Basically if i connect to my router over http and just refresh the page, each time the CRC errors jump by 50-200 every 5 seconds. This is with no one else connected or using the internet.

Oddly internet use does not affect the rate, its still climbing steadily. However I assume gaming is flooding the router and the router is then resetting.

I have a spare netgear router here I am going to try - just to check the CRCs on that. I also have a new micro filter.

The other PC sat right next to the router may not get as many CRC errors showing, though I suspect it will, but it could be due to me being on a 5m network cable to the router - the reason i suspect this wont affect it, is that internally across the network my transfer speeds are fine, and LAN gaming is not an issue.

I figure im going to have to contact BT and get them to look at my line, but at least I feel like im closer to the problem.

The network cable you're using won't be the problem as those errors are between the router and the kit at the exchange and nothing to do with the PCs really. A 5 metre cable is fine - ethernet's limit is 100 metres.

As you said, try the other router and a new filter and also try the router at the master phone socket with the face plate removed in order to isolate any extensions you may have. I doubt it's that though as your SNR is pretty good but it's worth a try - at least you can say to your ISP that you've done that if you need to raise a fault. If you still get hefty amounts of errors then definitely raise a fault with your ISP.

I'd be more inclined to believe it's the game opening more connections than the router can handle.

It's a bit hard to call the errors a "massive problem" without the (total) number of frames to compare it to. For example, the downstream errored seconds make a total of 8%.
As suggested, try the master socket and see if you see an improvement.

monitor your wan ip with l8nc and see if there are lots of red spikes. If you ping bbc -t do you get any time outs?

any ideas on how to get the games to behave?

I have got the line plugged into the master socket, I have even taken off the face plate and plugged into the test socket, same problem.

My brother is saying he is getting some lag issues in games, but not noticing getting dropped. We are talking like a 1 second drop and bam its back up again, but its enough time to kick me out of games.

Heres my event log - the firewall seems to be up too something:

Pinging BBC.co.uk:

Ping statistics for 212.58.224.116:
Packets: Sent = 175, Received = 170, Lost = 5 (2% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 16ms, Maximum = 22ms, Average = 17ms

Ill try this l8nc program, thanks for that :)

I want to ring eclipse or BT about it, but i cant isolate exactly whats doing it...
