Hey,

Ive just got the stats from my ISP on my line and they are as follows:

SNR Downstream: 14db
SNR Upstream: 25db
Downstream Attenuation: 55.5db
Upstream Attenuation: 32db

According to sam knows, im 2.46km from the exchange and BT say i should be able to recieve 512kb/s DSL, and 1mb with an engineer vist, however i am currently on a very stable 2mb with pipex.

Can someone tell me if it will be worth be upgrading to dsl max based on these stats, or would i be better off sticking with stable 2mb if thers a chance it can get any worse than it currently is

Thanks a lot,
Jack

Same stats as me roughly.
BT Max broadband checker says I chould recieve at least 4mb.
Ganna probably try Nildram 8mb but am a bit warey cos i'm on unlimited Zen 2mb right now

i dont know my line stats as my router doesnt show them, but im 2.2km away from the exchange, regraded to max from 2mb last week, and now im on about 6.5mb, if not more sometimes

I'm 3.64km from the exchange, currently on 1mb and BT say I can get 3.5mb.

How long has the router been on for, that's an awful lot of drops there.

A while, think it was 4 days. Yes it is a lot of drops, but doesnt seem to affect performance. Its done that ever since I had to replace a filter...

well in that case your new filter is knackered ;)

thats far too many errored seconds for 4 days. Mine has been on for months and it only has about 300.

I'll try another but I doubt it will make much difference. If the connection isnt dropping or being slower than normal I'm not too bothered.

There's a possibility you'd get a better connection with a better router. I've never rated conexant routers too highly (I know. I use one ;)).

maybe its tracking treasure down

Not sure what you mean, but tracking treasure down is a great song :p

Thanks for the info guys, looks like its worth me trying for it anyway considering i would be happy with anything over 3mb :)

Cheers,
Jack

I have similar stats to some

The calculator says I'll get the full 8Mbits - I very much doubt it!!! Even though that was done whilst downloading which tends to drop SNR but not on my new router - it dropped 0.1dB.

I'm still a bit confused though as to why I was never allowed to get 2Mbit - surely my line is good enough. I'm 1.84Km from the exchange straight line but there are a few farms in the way so maybe it goes around them. Also, oddly enough the Attn from my master socket was only 17dB - probably a glitch but I'm not sure, I did check twice with disconnects - I can't wait then until my NTE5 faceplate gets here! MaxDSL should be enabled on monday so I'll let you all know how I get on. BT checker says 3Mbps.

According to your screenshot you are on a 2 Mb service (not 1 Mb)

p.s. just thought, unless you have recently been moved on to Max DSL where BT automatically puts you on to 2 Mb to start with.

The 2meg rate that you're limited to is outside your line - you can sync at 8192kbps but be limited to 2meg for the first couple of days.

Though the Guesstimator result was right - the attenuation is outside spec for home2000. But as we know, that isn't necessarily appropriate.
