is it possible to get a desent Dslr for £200? wanted one for a first time user, with a good point and shoot option. was looking as a nikon 3000 but was slightly more and could get a nikon 3100 for a few quid more. but was looking to spend £200 on one if possible

Second hand D40/50/60 will do the trick, just make sure it comes with some form of lens.

The D40x and D60 use the same sensor as the D3000 (although the auto focus is more basic), the D40 is pretty much the same but with less megapixels.

They have auto modes, and in the right situation will take excellent photos. But to make the most of them you need to learn some of the fundamentals of exposure.

would a 3000 or 3100 be better for noice than the to start with? i have also started reading up on using one, but till i get one its only so helpful

D3000 is a nice camera tbh, i don't think you'd find a 3100 for 200 notes either, or if you really look about you could pick up a slightly untidy D200 for around 200-250 it's a better camera than the 3000 range, and comes with built in AF so you would have your pick of the cheaper lenses :)

Indeed. The 3100 Goes for about..£400 ish with a kit lens from what I remember. Other than the ability to shoot video, there isn't a great deal of difference if you're wanting to start out..I could go on about the specs etc.. but there's no need at this stage =]. If you are interested though I found Snapsort really useful to see the differences quickly http://snapsort.com/compare/Nikon_D3000-vs-Nikon_D3100

Are you looking to get this to last you a while, or a few months to practice then upgrade? Also, are you considering places like the Bay of e for a purchase?

20d + nifty fifty would be a good start to dslr. Might come in just over budget via classifieds.

Old combo, but very sharp and miles above any point and shoot.

I am considering selling my D60 for around £220, so you will be able to find them around the £200 mark. Ebay seems to have them around £280 though :S

You can get a D3100 for £300 second hand, seen a couple at that price.

Seems like an ideal opportunity for Zairs to get first dibs on making an offer :P If you do are you going body only or including a lens if you sell?

Out of the budget along with the other 2. I'd still go with 20D/30D for your budget. In my experience you'll be better accommodated in terms of additional glass if you want it. There are more Canon lenses floating around so you'd likely get better pricing....in theory anyway.
