Hey guys,

Looking for a decent DSLR to do some photography with, currently have a Fuji S5800 and would like something with some more options and generally better quality. I've nothing against a used camera, which I guess is what it'll be at < £200, I'd be real grateful if someone could recommend one.

Thanks a lot,

Matt

Think a 400D sold for around £250 recently so probably a little over, may mean the 350D is in his price range or even a well used 400D.

Thanks guys, so which is better to go for, Canon, Nikon or Sony?

Ooh, you're just asking for trouble there mate

I find Nikon bodies fit my hands better and are more comfortable, whereas some prefer Sony and Canon

You can probably pick up an alright-ish Olympus for around that mark

Well dis-count Olympus from that list then, but like I say it's worth a look in photography shops and seeing how the camera feels

Regards to Canon/Nikon it's what you prefer in your hand, I preferred Nikon myself.

Within your budget is a Nikon D40 and D50 and possibly the D70, and then on Canon it's probably the mentioned 20D, 350D, and probably pushing 400D just over your budget.

If your just starting out I would go for a D40(x), i wish i had tbh, it has a menu system that tells you what settings do what etc.

When I owned a DSLR I owned both Canon 350D and Sony A100 & A200 and from a purely amateur perspective who wasn't investing in prime lenses etc, I found the Sony much more friendly.

Add in the fact that old Minolta lenses fit them and can be picked at relatively cheap prices and you end up with very good set-up with decent lenses for not much outlay in relative terms.

If you can pick up an A200 and stick a Minolta 50mm f1.8 and Minolta 70-210mm f4 'beercan' and you have some very very decent glass to hang off the front..!
