Hi guys

I have just ordered the lovely nikon d3200 kit with vr2 lens.I also have a sony handycam CX-115E which i use at the mo for video. The sony records at 1080i afaik and the nikon 1080p.

Would the nikon produce the same if not better video or should i still keep the sony for taking vids.

Thanks

Thanks Wez

I will just have to take a recording from both and compare the difference.

I know that 1080p is better than interlaced but by how much and what can the camcorder offer that the d3200 can't.

Personally, I'd say its down to how you use a camera and what you are shooting than whether one offers better video quality or not.

The sensor in the D3200 is likely to give a far better video quality, plus the simple fact you can change lenses to put good quality glass on it is more critical than anything else.

That said though, it's not an ideal video camera, its far bigger, it has interchangeable lenses, its limited to 20 minute clips, its not as ergonomic to hold for shooting video.

Your video camera on the other hand is compact, easy to use and will do exactly what you want without much faff.

Ultimately how you use it is a question only you can answer. If you are shooting video to make short films or something for example, and can take your time, then using the D3200 and ditching the video camera makes sense. If however you are travelling and say want to shoot holiday videos, it might be best to stick to something easy and light like the video camera, which can also be given to other people to use.

If you fall somewhere in between and would be carrying both the camera and video camera at the same time, it does make sense to get rid of one of them.

That was what i wanted to hear as i don't mind the bulkiness of the camera if the end result is better. Will be using for holidays and parties etc so wanted to use it for videos and pictures and save carrying both around. Will get rid of the camcorder and practice with the nikon.

Thanks for the help.
