how would i go about installing 2 OS's (want to give ubuntu a spin)...

before i get my new HDD i wanna mess about a bit...

must i install it on a new HDD/ partition or can i do it on the same one?

thanks

Put each OS on a different partition. What other OS are you going to use?

well XP32 bit is what i have now, and i was thinking how to install ubuntu without format + partition as right now its a 250GB drive with just the 1 partition.. can i create new partition on top of what i have now.. i have no Free HDD's to play around with

when my 320GB F1 gets here then im going Vista..

Funny you reply because it was you who suggested Linux for me, i ignore this in the past because driver support or ? whatever, i thought id give it a shot and see what use it is to me

from what i have gathered
You can only add a partition if your disk has unallocated space on it. An 'Unallocated space'
which i dont like :(

Linux would sit much nicer on a different file system such as EXT3, so you really do need either a free partition or drive.

iirc, partition magic could create a new partition for unused space on an existing partition, but it's been a while since i used it.

If you're just fiddling I'd try running VMware Player and create an image for free with EasyVMX. When it all goes pear shaped just delete it and start again.

how do i end up with a boot selection menu, i just clicked restart ubuntu and windows started up lmao..

wtf!

ok well i can see that ive gone and fked something up because now im in windows again, the partition i created is completely empty and i have no idea where it installed itself...

now im starting to think it was running from a CD???? too much nonsense and ive not slept for 26 hours

edit put CD back in and now it seems to be installing again, only im not giving any option of where to install or what it is doing, it just does it

edit again trying to install it from the live CD, but it doesnt find any partitions, and wont let me go forward... not looking good so far
