Dual Channel DDR2

If you were to install just one stick of RAM then it would run in single channel mode. By installing two Memory Dimms of the same type you are then running in dual channel mode. So you could get a 2GB kit or 4GB kit of DDR2 RAM and it would run in dual channel mode providing you insert both modules.

Thanks,

So even thought the gigabyte site makes no mention of dual channel support a 2x2gb DC kit would work.

The Gigabyte website and the manual for your board make no mention at all of dual channel. I may be wrong, but it doesn't look like your board supports it.

Its an old board in my htpc. This is why I asked - 775 boards aren't as simple as the new ddr3 ones. All the 2x2gb kits ocuk sell are dual channel.

Just cos a set of ram says dual channel doesn't mean it's ONLY dual channel. All it means is the sticks are matched to run well in dual channel configuration. They will run in single channel mode the same as buying two seperate sticks would. Or have I misread you?

And the only n00b question is the one that isn't asked ;)

Thanks Ripshod, that answered my question.

Even if my board doesnt support dual channel, a DC kit will still work as single channel ram.
