I am switching over from a Dual Core AMD setup to an Intel Dual Core. I am currently on an S939 system and now seemed to be a good time, despite having just upgraded my current setup, to make the move across platfroms. The followng will be arriving tomorrow.

Zotac nFire GeForce 8800GT 512MB DVI PCI-E TV OUT Video Graphics Card

OCZ 2GB Kit (2x1024) Platinum Series DDR2 PC6400 800MHz Dual Channel Memory Rev. 2 With Platinum Heatspreader

Gigabyte motherboard GA-P35-DS3R P35 Intel Express LGA775 Quad-Core / Core2 Extreme / Core2 Duo ATX

Intel CPU Pentium DualCore E2180 2x2.0GHz 800MHz 1Mb LGA775 Retail (3yr Manufacturer's Warranty)

I would be gratful if anyone with experience of making this switch could let me know of any pitfalls that I might come across in the build as I have only ever built S939 systems. Is there anything siginificantly different between doing the two builds, o,r for relatively experienced tinkerer of my S939 system, should it all go fine.

I already have all the other bits, including a Tuniq 120 and am looking forward to speeds of 3Ghz+, hopefully.

Many thanks

Sounds pretty similair then. Thanks for the reassurance. HOw do cooler mount on these sockets, Screws or spring clips. I hate those pesky fiddly clips.

Worse than clips. :p

The stock cooler uses pins that poke through four holes in the motherboard. These suck, frankly. The Tuniq uses a backplate. The cooler sits on the CPU and a retention bracket sits on top of that. Thumbscrews through the motherboard bind the two together.

You'll probably just need to reactivate,l but formatting and reinstalling is a good practice too since you'll still have all the old drivers for things that aren't there anymore.

im just building my new intel quad/gtx8800 . my last pc is a 939amd.

no differences really.

and i always do a clean install as well. . .

Thanks for your help. I can confirm that as you all said, it was, for the most part, a walk in the park. I needed to reinstall windows in the end as I just got BSODS without doing so. It has been Orthosing for an hour so far at 3Ghz with temps at 60. I am looking forward to what the GFx card will do, but want to check stability first.

Thanks again.

Paul
