Dual Core Optys

hey i curently have a single core opty 146 @ 3ghz

im intrested in geting a dual core opty to replace this cpu

i have a choice of

165
AMD Opteron 64 170 Socket939 , Denmark Core, 2 x 2.0GHz , 2MB Cache, Retail

my first choice was the 165 but i can get the 170 for £30 more

im thinking of now getting the 170 can some i kick me in the behind and say get it or should i get somthing else?

i can get a 170 for £130 with an unknown stepping but ill email them and ask to see if they can get me the stepping information.

gona go with the 170 10x multiplyer easier then 9x lol

also i have never heared of the denmark core, is this a diffrent core to normal or is it the normal core.

i have managed to find about 5 supplyers with them in stock aparenly i have emailed them all to see if they can give me any info on the steppings

they range from £120 - £130

a few of the resellers replyed but none could give me any info on the steppings they had in stock so iv ordered a opty 170 for £132 inc delivery, also its a local reseller to me

which has its advantages

ill let you know stepping info when i get it in about 3-4 days

iv just got my new opty 170

stepping is CCBBE 0615EPMW

hope to get 2.8 maybe 3.0 on water

right everything ready to go

to install this cpu what i need to do

uninstall the 146 opty drivers from device manager

install the new cpu

then install the dual core drivers from here
http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources/0,,30_182_871_13118,00.html

AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual Core Processor Driver for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 Version (x86 and x64 exe) 1.3.2.16 -

then install the

AMD Dual-Core Optimizer

then it should work fine.

right iv swaped over the cpu

but i am getting no display on moniter

lights are on fans are going but no display.

iv tryed clearing the bios left it for about 2-3 mins gona try again now but leave it for 10 mins

any other idears?

gona try with 1 stick of ram

just remembered i did have a hell of a time getting the gfx card to sit properly when i first put it in so will try again

got display gfx card was not in properly took me and my bro to screw it in lol

now think my raid aray is broke

as i get this warning

"A Disk Read Error Occurred"
pres ctrl alt del to restart

im begining not to like this new cpu

OMG

it works

caus i cleared the bios i lost all the raid settings (probs caus it may be disabled by default)

lucky i used the bios backup thingy that the DFI bioses have restored the opty 146 setting lowered the volatge and the fsb and walla :>

fixed

now i can break it again by clocking the pants off it

god i cant be doing with that sort of stress after work lol god

lol i unpluged some of the lights i had then took ram out then took HSF and cpu out lol

everything seems fine

do you think i should install the drivers and the Optimizer?

iv gone from a opty 146 @ 3ghz to an opty 170 this will be my last upgrade untill begining of 2008 (i hope lol)

hoping to get 2.8ghz on air maybe 3ghz if i get my water cooling to work

right i left the pc @ stock runing dual prime over night @ 1.45v

first results

opty 170 @ 2.2ghz
votlage at 1.45v

ram running 1/1

220x10

running 3dmark now no problems so far will keep you posted

couldnt remember what the default voltage was so stuck it at 1.45v

2.35ghz prime stable at 1.45v

i cant get to 2.4 at 1.45

(cpuz sais 1.41v)

not prime stable
will run 3dmark05 tho
