Dual Core Temps

Make sure your CPU fan is running; I changed the BIOS CPU fan control on my DS3 and up until 60oc it decided that it would run the CPU passive...

Suprisingly it idled at around 49, somewhat of a testiment to how cool these chips can run (e4300 here)
 
Applied my new TIM last night and there was no improvement (or not much).

I'm still not 100% confident that the heatsink is seated correctly though, and I've been on a few forums now where people have an issue with the "4 pegs that need to be pushed into the P5B" (on intel stock heatsink) and how awkward and difficult it is. It can give the impression that it's seated correctly but maybe only three out of the four are in 100% fully etc.

I've been wary of pressing super-hard as I've heard you can bend the mobo and break hidden channels in the board itslef etc, but I think this evening I'm going to have to take a hammer to esch peg to give me piece of mind!!!!

Would it be really easy to "break" the mobo if I push down too hard on each peg?
 
I fitted my Packard Hell iExtreme with a new Akasa 955 HSF over the 6600 and came up against the same problem. The first two times speedfan was showing core temps >75C and the PC eventually shut down. Third time did the trick and after running TDU for an hour core temps are around 53C and CPU mid 40's C.

It was very hard to determine whether or not the plastic feet had seated properly through the mobo, first occasion I think the backplate for the stock fan was still present and inhibited the feet clicking home properly. Still not convinced all four are in but seems okay at present. The 775 socket seems very flimsy considering the need to get the HSF seated properly. I was terrified the mobo was going to snap I had to exert so much pressure to get the pins home.

...well, best foot forward..... I'm about 2 hours away (still in work) from clicking the thing into place or snapping the mobo and crying a lot

Well you could always take the motherboard out and support it underneath when you are pushing the pins through, this way you would also be able to see if the pins are secured on the other side. Although the thought of taking everything apart isn't the best :/

When I rebuild my PB in a couple of months with a new case and mobo I will probably try and do that - get the CPU/HSF secure bfore screwing in the case. At the moment though still working on the missus for investment "authorisation"...having blown £650 on the box and another £160 on replacement PSU/HSF/GPU she can't understand why I want to spend another £120 on rebuilding the thing completely.
 
Just out of intrest...are these temps too high?

E4300 running at stock with stock cooler
Core Temp says it idles at 43 and when under Orthos hovers at betweem 57 and 60...

Seems a little hot to me but i've reseated and re-applied paste about 3 times now.... I've tried using more paste or less paste but less gives higher temps and more doesn't change them....
