dual core!! what one...

I wouldn't have bought 2x Maxtor DiamondMax. First, maxtors have been a little flakey in their DM9 and 10 range with failures.

Second, the Seagate 7200.10 200GB uses new technology (perpendicular) which is about 30% faster on sustained reads than the maxtor and should be a fair bit faster if you are RAID'ing (which I feel you might be). It also comes with a 5 yr warranty as standard and seagate's reputation for reliability (and please, I know Seagate bought Maxtor but this doesn't mean they have miraculously changed their factories or anything like that).

I dont suppose you know how these compare to the Western Digital 150GB Raptors by any chance?

I do in fact. They are slower than the 150GB raptors in sustained read :

150GB Raptor:~75MB/s
74GB 16MB cache Raptor: ~76Mb/s
74GB 8MB cache Raptor: ~65Mb/s
Seagate 7200.10 series (perpendicular recordinf - new tech): ~67Mb/s.
Normal 7200rpm HDU (longitudinal recording i.e. normal): ~55Mb/s

All the above is average/sustained read.

Of course the raptor will be faster at seeks (1/2 the time) but the Seagate 7200.10 is the fastest 7200rpm drive around at the moment. The new perpendicular tech is good for lots of reads/copying. They are quiet and seagate are renowned for reliability. The 150GB is pretty damn fast (probably second fastest SATA drive (behind new 74GB 16MB cache raptors).

All the above is NOT conjecture - I have owned all at one point or another (many at the same time).
 
Thats excellent concidering theres another 50gb of space, I wonder how the 750GB version compares - I dont suppose you have that info at hand, appreciate the info.
 
All the 7200.10 drives have the same platter densities (180GB IIRC). This means that all should perform at the same or very similar rates.
