Howdy,

Just wondering whether its worth me getting space for my old crt on my desk and using it as well as my new tft screen? I've seen several setups with more than one monitor, but can someone pimp the advantages to me?

Cheers :)

its so useful, being able to multitask a lot more efficiently, run films on one - work on another, browse the web while doing something else...

You just have to try it out, tis great :)

Hows it done? Program name?
None! ATI & NVIDIA graphics driver's allow you to setup Dual monitors, TV (through S-Video or Composite), etc

Very useful especially if you game a lot & have other things running in the background, e.g. download managers, etc. In 1 monitor setup you'd have to ALT-Tab to check on say a download, which i've found some games/programs don't like :D

i have a tft monitor and nearly a 10 year old crt monitor. Can i use them both like you say with a 7800 gtx?
Yes :) If the card has 2 DVI ports, use the supplied DVI>VGA converter

Wish I never read this thread, I just borrowed my son's monitor to try out a dual screen set up and I love it, only problem is I dont have much desk space for 2 CRT's and he needs the monitor, so now it looks like I am gonna have to splash some cash on at least 1 TFT screen :)

So good having games on one screen and can still mess about on the net and msn on the other...

Thats gutting mate because it means moving my tower to the floor ;) and doing away with my naff "active 95" speakers :D

I could never go back to a single screen now. I use 1 screen at work, and I hate it. At one point I had 2 19" screens flanking my 24" screen. That setup grew on my very fast as well. Shame one of the 19" was the replacement for the other.

Problem being i'm not keen on the way the text is shown on this lcd screen as of yet, maybe I just need to get used to it?

Aye I have, its already on cleartype and I don't like the way text looks at all to be honest, that or its highlighting my need for an eye test... I'm not sure :(

Is it slightly blurry, its most likely you need to adjust your refresh rate.
My monitor supports up to 75Hz, but looks much better at 60

Yeah it seems blurry and just well it doesn't look the same as it did on a crt screen (though my crt was at 1024 res - 17inch)

Somewhat suprised to see all the people saying they couldn't go back. 5 years ago or so I was running dual monitors for a few months but in the end it got a bit too much hassle. Having to switch them on, make sure windows were in the right place etc. In the end I used to just leave the second monitor switched off most of the time :) You can only focus on so much real estate at any given moment anyway.

Maybe if you have two identical (or at least, same size) monitors it wouldn't be too bad, but I can't say I was that impressed. I'd much rather have one large (22") screen than a couple of smaller (say 17-19") ones.

But hey, as it won't cost you anything, you might as well try it.

It expands the way you work, my productity has increased x2. Especially how I can have one document on one screen and copy information across to the other, instead of keep alt-tabbing.

i used to run dual TFTs and never ever managed to get them setup so i could game on one screen and browse the web on the other

i could multi-task in windows fine, do all the regular things etc.... but as soon as a game loaded that wanted to go fullscreen it would either

a) go fullscreen but over two mintors
b) use only one monitor and the other would go blank
c) mimick what was on the other screen
