Does this work - can it be done?

Can I keep 1080p on my main monitor and have a second smaller monitor for just web browsing and stuff?

I'm really a novice with that kind of thing so I genuinely have no clue.

Yes, I am running this kind of setup at the moment - one Samsung @ 1280x1024 and an LG @ 1680x1050.

How do you go about setting this up then?

The more idiot proof the explanation the better, I'll give this a go tonight

Had an old monitor, 19'' 1440x900 sitting next to me for ages so I might as well get some use out of it. Having a second screen to check forums/guides/etc while gaming would be handy

Yes.

You should have options in the Nvidia control panel for setting the resolution (and other settings) of each monitor individually. If the control panel supports it (I assume it does - I am using an AMD card) you can also run monitors in protrait and landscape at the same time (this is what I am currently doing).

It's in the basic windows display settings too, you just have two screens in there instead of one, and you can select the resolution for each.

Had this running over the weekend, working fine lads - just had to plug it in and it worked. should have done this sooner.

Cheers all

Now that you have two monitors, may I suggest you try setting up vmware or the like as a second virtual PC on one for when friends/kids family are about... or just to isolate a dedicated test envioment. You can even have VMware lock extra USB keyboards/mice to the virtual machine. Won't play games but saves the kids messing with things they shouldn't... and if they do manage to messup things or get a virus or what ever, just restore the VM image.

I have a AOC 22" @ 1920x1080 and a 2nd 19" @ 1440x900 for use in a virtual machine for app development. Saves on KVM and additional machines.
