Dual monitors

If you want a dual monitor setup, do they both monitors need to be the same size etc?

No they don't have to be the same size although your setup will look so much nicer if they are matching screens

I used to dual screen a 14" CRT with my 19" CRT (both running at different resolutions) and didn't encounter any problems at all.

No, they dont have to be the same size, but imo if they are you get far more out of it.
