Dual Screens?

Hi all,

I have seen a lot of pics of peoples set-ups using dual monitors.
I can see it of being of use but what do most people use it for? I.e work on one whilst playing a game on another?

Also, I take it you obviously need a dual output video card? Is there much of a performance hit using 2? Also, is it wast to setup?

Thanks

Nope no performance hit. Although there are some games that for some reason run at 5fps until you disable the second screen.

I have Firefox/photoshop/main apps on on the primary; Winamp, email, chat on the other.

I used to use it for a few things, unfortunately I dont have the desk space to do it now. I used to use one for work, and the other for movies, or one for gaming, adn the other one for xfire, teamspeak, skype, music etc.

They are really handy to have, and I do miss my second screen.

watch films while chatting, watch films whilst doing work.
word process while having browser up with relevant research etc.

When doing work etc a higher resolution in a computer would basically emulate having a larger desk in the real world.
Sometimes some of us LOTS and LOTS of room.

I've never had a reason to have dual monitors at home, but for work I've used them for a good few years now. I think the transition is almost like going to widescreen, you don't immediate see the advantages until you switch back, I just can't see how I'd be able to work as easy or comfortably with just having one screen.

I have them at work.. infact each desk has 3..

We use 1 for RVL (Realtime Vehicle Location)
Another for the CAD system and the AMPDS system..
And a third which is touch screen for controling the radio/phone.

I usually use both when im learning something

Video Training for x app on one monitor, follow along on the other
pdf book on one, follow along on other.

Or apps with loads of windows, just drag some over to get more screen space.

^^ My thoughts exactly. Although the missus says differently.

I use my main monitor for gaming / internet and my second monitor for watching football or other applications.

I couldn't live without dual screens now. I was considering a third screen as I have room on my desk. Although 20" isn't very big now and I think 24" would look kinda out of place perhaps.

put 24in middle above poster it would rock :D

i loved when i used dualscreen for my pc im now using a 40inch hdtv but still miss the extra space but recently hooked graphics card up to my 28inch toshina tv :D

used it at work all the time. Outlook open perminently one one screen, and all my explorer windows opened there, then all my apps and internet on the other.

It nice to have 2 fullscreen applications working side by side too.

Personally, its much more usefull to aid work than leasure use, but still handy.

I currently have a 19" widescreen and a 14" TV to watch films on. No room on my uni desk for more, but when I get home there will be..... :)

My 2nd screen is a Samsung Freeview TV with a PC input so i mostly use it for TV.
However, I use it for watching films I have on my hard drives while I continue working on my main screen.
When I'm home recording I will have Sonar on my main screen while I have plugins on the 2nd screen.
I'd find it hard to go back to one screen now.

I love my dual screens. usually have firefox on one and msn/winamp/vlc on the other depending on if im chatting, listening to something or watching something.
also handy for uni work... word on one with firefox/pdf research on the other, or sometimes a second instance of word with notes in etc.
also like to spread myself out when i'm recording (i'm in a couple of bands so use my comp for that too). my band always ends up with millions of tracks cuz our vocalist insists on doubling and tripling everything he records so i can see a hell of a lot more tracks when i'm spread across two screens rather than one.

i think it's one of those things that once you try you won't go back.

I have 2 24's, thought it was overkill at the time but couldnt live without now :)

Do a lot of web design, so photoshop on one, dreamweaver on the other, toolbars on other screen etc.

Or when I'm not working, iTunes on one internet on the other etc.
