Dual Screens?

aye, I think the main advantage of dual screens is simply the increased desktop area, You can spread out a bit, reduce the use of alt-tab :p
I use it for web design & coding, code on one screen, output & reference on the other. Also useful for sticking a movie on while your chatting or doing something else. I've just moved to a 24" screen from a 19"/17" dual setup, and already im getting itches for a 2nd one :p

My pc with dual monitors is my recording studio PC and i use it for Cubase, Reason etc.

In cubase i have main arrangment window on one and then mixer, Reason, all other stuff on the second. I could not go back at all would be near impossible for me to adjust. I would still be looking to my right to see stuff :D

Cheers

In the interest of willie waving (which this thread has become) I use my pair of 22" monitors to play WoW on one (windowed) and have chat software / WoW guide on the other. It's also handy for BIG spreadsheets because you can stretch them over both monitors.

It's easy to set up. It's as easy as changing the Resolution on a monitor.

I use 2 Monitors one 20" and another 17". I find it extremly useful for doing coursework etc if i go back to using one monitor in school it feels so weird. Its deffinitly worth it dont knock it until you've tried it as they say. I also do a lot of gaming using the 20" for games and 17" for ts msn etc, its awsome!

I do web design full time, it its nice to have the design on one screen, and the code on another, so any changes can be seen in real time, makes life a lot easier. Also the obvious stuff like outlook open, msn etc. I also have a third monitor to monitor the web/db cluster but thats on another machine.

2 x 24" at home, 2 x 19" at work

Desktop space of a god!

Browsing, email, music, gaming, writing, everything becomes better with dual monitors.

Plus it looks sexual and makes you feel like a hacker.

Ant

this is what i do.

1) Uni work - have word/excel open on first monitor, then internet/PDF on second monitor, it helps a lot because printing all those articles is long. so if this is you then its worth it

2) gaming - playing a game on 1 monitor, and the second one has a website (refreshing every 5 seconds, that tells me what sever all my friends are on etc) + Teamspeak, so i can see who is in the channel and who is talking + a temperature monitoring program or whatever else you might need. Playing games across 2 monitors = BAD, if you were thinking about this, you need 3, not due to compatibility but because you dont want it split in the middle.

Performance hit?, none, my friend says he turns off his 2nd monitor when gaming to increase speed, i have not noticed any difference. i even played BF2:PR @ 3840*1200 (stretched across 2 monitors), all maxed settings at like 60-80 FPS

set up?, well its easy peasy, plug them both in, most cards have 2 DVI's and use NV soft , and ULTRAMON!!!!!, because it is 100% needed (or another software).

no doubt i will consider buying 1 more 24inch, if i have desktop space, and then play games at 5760*1200 so i can tell all those people playing "HD" gaming on PS3/XBOX360 to go **** themselves compared to my full HD X 3 let alone a 720p rubbish, :D:D

have fun

Another dual screen convert here. Have dual 19s at work and home. Very handy for file organising, an instance of explorer on each screen makes copying and pasting so much quicker.

But my main use is for quark and photoshop, can have the whole left hand screen sowing the document you're working on and the tool bars all open and big enough for all options to be showing on the other monitor, makes life so much easier when putting together a design or working on photos etc.
