Dude?

I use dude all the time

I sometimes call people Son, like i have on here numerous times which always ends up in an argument with some snotty little **** going "dont patronise me, just because im younger" or you get back "ok Dad" which is equally annoying

Dude is better and it didnt start with Waynes world or Dude, wheres my car :)

Let me explain something to you. Um, I am not "Mr. Lebowski"

I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. You know, that or, uh, His Dudeness, or uh, Duder, or El Duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing.

Son is London/Essex speak; dude comes from west coast USA...

Okay but why is Britain, the home of the English language after all, adopting (awful) Americanisms, when the US itself isn't adopting ours? I doubt many Californians go round saying 'mate'.

Their loss.

There is a fine line to be drawn between accepting change (for that is what keeps a language vibrant) and decrying it unthinkingly. I don't like all the ways the English language is abused either but it is one of the reasons that English is the lingua franca and likely to remain that way for the foreseeable future.

I use dude constantly. Because it's a friendly term etc. 'Mate' I find to be the language of the simpleton. If you're not my 'mate', then do me the honor of referring to me as dude.

That made me laugh :(

But yeah - I probablly use the word "dude" a bit.. Or generally if I am speaking to my friends something like "hey" :/

The word "Dude" sounds ok with an american saying it, but uk\ireland it sounds retarded with our accents. Record yourself saying it and play it back..enough said.
