"dumb" ADSL modem/bridge

I'm trying to find a simple device with an ADSL port (rj11) and an Ethernet port that can bridge/convert PPPoE to PPPoA

For example, you purchase a decent firewall/router which has a WAN port that supports PPPoE but you live in an area where ADSL is the only option.

I realise I can use a cheap router to terminate the ADSL and then nat to the firewall or I can buy a public range of IP addresses and route to it but this is a problem I come across a lot and there must be a simple solution.

Draytek have a device that does exactly this, think it's the vigor 120 - we have one customer using this and performance is terrible and we have found several forum posts from other 120 users with the same issue.

Anyone aware of an alternative? Zoom 5715 was an option but looks discontinued

I think the ZyXEL P-660R-T1 v3 might have a bridge mode. There are PDF manuals on their website. Hope this helps

The Technicolour router that Plusnet sent me can be put into a pure bridge mode, I'm using it now very reliable.

You can use one of the older BT homehubs, normally referred to as a 2wire, to do what your asking for. Can probably pick up one the bay for a not much money as well.

I was not able to turn bridge mode on with pair of: D-Link DSL-320B and Buffalo WZR-AGL300NH (altough I've seen other routers working fine with this modem).

Interesting, anyone with such Buffalo router here ?

I've successfully done this at clients with very poor ADSL. As already mentioned the BT 2wire will work in bridge mode, but can be a faff to get it into that mode. The good old rock steady Netgear dg834 will also do it very well and very easily. I've pushed these both through to a Draytek 2910 and 2930 that have dual WAN ports.
