Hello

I've got an AMD 64 X2 Dual 3800+, and ATI Radeon X1600. It's an ASUS Vintage ATX case.

I've got a Zalman CPU silent fan that made a significant noise drop, but I'd like to get the psu quiet too.

As it's currently got a 350watt suply, I'm thinking 400-450watts would be overkill, but what advice could you offer ?

Ta.

thanks.

Does this ATX 2.0 concern me ? Will it fit into an ATX case ?

Yes it will be fine. If your mobo has a 20 Pin ATX power connector then most of the new 24 Pin Connectors on the newer PSU's split so that you can use the 20 Pin part of it easily. If and when you decide to get a new PSU check to see if the Connector splits to 20 Pin if your Mobo requires that.

My Seasonic is nice and quiet.

This article is a year old, but still pretty current:

Who said 600w?

The only things that have been mentioned are quality brands.
they did. so i ask again, does he need a 600w psu? seasonic make some very good cheaper psu's. unless the guy is planning an sli quadcore monster, then no he doesnt need to spend £80-100 on a monster psu to match.

He wasn't recommending HIS psu, simply the manufacturer.

He already knows that anything above 450w is probably overkill for his current system. What's wrong with saying "My Seasonic is nice and quiet" then linking to an article with many different wattages?

To be honest I'd say 520w is about suited to his needs, considering future expansion.

Ta for all the advice.

I'm happy 450w is over the top - I want a quiet music DAW PC - the graphics card is way more than I need, and only in for dual-head capability.

I've one 250Gb Sata drive, will be getting another shortly and er ... that's my total expansion plans.

thanks again all.
