Dumb question about E6700-E6750

Hi all i know this is proberly a realey dumb question,but which would be a better cpu @ stock for a asus p5w dh the E6700 or the E6750
And what is the difference ?

Only difference I can see is the E6750 has a 1333MHZ FSB so it'll be slightly better, but not worth almost £80

Huh? The E6750 (£120) is cheaper than the E6700.

The E6750 is better, it has a slightly faster fsb and "Intel® Trusted Execution Technology" whatever that is.

The only thing is that you will need DDR2 667 ram instead of 533.

the e6750 is faster at stock with the higher bandwidth.

e6750 -> 333 x 8 = 2.66GHz
e6700 -> 266 x 10 = 2.66GHz

but, consider this:-

e6700 -> overclocked to 333 x 10 = 3.33GHz

I'm with melbourne 720,

The 1333 chips need a motherboard pushed much harder to OC to same level as a 1066 chip.

the E6750 needs 450Mhz for 3.6Ghz
the E6700 needs 360Mhz for 3.6Ghz.

I think we're being duped with faster FSB = more difficult to OC

I meant the E6700 probably isn't worth the extra ~£80.

I'd agree, not worth the extra £80 but if he's wanting to OC the FSB needs to be considered

Spend some of the extra saved by not getting an E6700 on a better board and memory? Faster FSB and RAM equates to a fair bit more performance than on an E6700 setup at the same speed. If the mobo is already purchased and FSB limited i'd get an even slower and cheaper FSB cpu like the E4xxx series or other with a high multi.

i have an E6750, not a problem to overclock at all, hit 3.6Ghz with no problems and a slight voltage bump. Had it semi stable at 3.84Ghz too without much trouble. the E6750 is part of a new price range, whereas the E6700 is at the end of its life, which is why the prices are different.

Ive got the e6850 and stable at 3.87GHz, could feel that it would stretch even higher! But have not found its limit yet.

E6700 is the 'old' model. Intel didnt reduce the prices, they just bought out 'new' models at lower prices. So retailers either sell the old stock (at a loss?), or hope that enthusiasts who want a higher multiplier will still buy them... Mind you most the retailers did slash the prices too... afterall they would rather sell something cheap, than have it in the stock room forever.

They both clock about the same, but E6700 is 'easier' on the motherboard/ram, and probably better suited to an older generation board like a 975 chipset. For X35, X38 chipsets might as well go for the 1333FSB chips.
