Hi, might be a bit of a noob question but I'm about to dump amd for Nvidea for the first time ever (something like 8-10 years). Apart from uninstalling catalyst control center via the uninstall program in control panel is there anything else I need to do to prepare my PC for my nice shiny new GTX 970?

Thanks for your time...

I presume you have windows 7 or 8.1? if so I would just run the uninstall program from the programs in the control panel.

DDU and the like sometimes cause problems.

DDU will cause no problems unless your PC is a problem.. I've used DDU since it was first announced and it just works

I'd only use DDU if a normal uninstall process doesn't work cause it causes issues for some people and there is no downside to trying without it first. I've swapped vendor a few times and never needed DDU yet - proving anecdotal evidence isn't great.

That's a bit of a blanket statement. It has caused problems for people.

This, you can use DDU if you have problems, but, most of the time the uninstall works fine. I have never needed to use DDU yet either.

Why use the word dumping? Could have just said you are changing brands.

Makes it sound like u think AMD are crap

Won't you think of the AMD supporters feelings? The word dumping is my trigger!

Maybe he does think AMD are crap. He's entitled to his opinion.

Update your motherboard bios now to save any possible issues when you plug In The new card.

Is this step really necessary? I've never updated my mobo bios before. Something about the way it's done makes me terrified I'm going to permanently screw my mobo... lol

Thanks to everyone else, I'm going to go the control panel route then if I encounter any issues I'll use DDU...

Personally, although there's nothing to fear by updating a mobo bios, I wouldn't do it unless it needs to be done, which it might...but we will see. :)

Good idea to try the control panel route first imo.

I just think for a month old card it would help with possible problems, But that's just me, If it works fine then there is no need to update it.

I feel like dumping Amd Again!

She just don't play nice with me. Promises to do so much, then bitches and mounds when I want to do more than sit on the sofa and watch tele...

One thing about DDU that alarms me is i get a windows notification that it is making a lot of changes to the registery and gives me the option to cancel it. Though so far using in with my AMD card I have had no problems.
