Duncan Bannatyne

I watched this last night and as soon as I saw Duncan i thought there was something different. I can believe he has had plastic surery but its a fact the "Just For Men" has been getting some serious usage :D

For the record Theo is the best!

I think he's the best dragon of the lot, most successful I think too. For his age he looks in tip top shape alright. He must use his local Bannatyne's gym, I know I do. :)

Shame Richard Farley isn't on there now, he used to be my favourite. He was able to give constructive criticism without bordering on being rude. Now he's gone I guess my favourite is Theo. He can be quite funny.

lol charlie brooker made me laugh when he screenwiped dragons den the theo bit was especially good

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OYri6NA8cc (skip to 4 minutes for the theo god father bit its classic)

but yea farley seemed like an all round nice bloke , kaan seems nice aswell i dont think ive ever seen him be rude
She has a UK patent. And already has a massive contract with BT.
but you can emulate what her magni thing does without any magnets.

is it really dangerous to use a coathanger? its not like its going to cause an explosion in a wall cavity, you could just use a solid length of metal wire to guide from one hole to the other or just use a plastic tube like a straw that you leave in place and just snip off at the other end.

Plus I hate it when they go well I will offer you 20% for half of the money then another dragon says they will offer the same. So they end up nearly half of their company gone for the money they want.

It happens every episode and is just a kick in the teeth.

Not really. The entrepreneurs that go on must know that and make allowance for it.

I understand she was referring to technique where you make a loop on the cable, thread it through hole, then go to the other side, put coat hanger inside, grab the loop and yank it to the outside. Since you're not sure what exactly is it that your coat hanger hook caught and what you're yanking it could, potentially be H&S risk.

/me runs to the patent office at full speed.
Seriously though - your method is not only cheaper (it only needs a length of pvc pipe) but also cable can be threaded to the other side from point of entry/drilling, whereas her method requires another person to attach cable on the other side to the wand...

I use the wire suspended ceiling fitters use for 'fishing'. I did once get a belt from an open junction box under the floorboards but can't think of a risk within a cavity.

incase you cut through electrical wires I think.
Duncan Bannatyne does show a bit of old man syndrome but I didnt know he was 60 . Deborah is the worst I always joke with my family that she's really poor, she never invests.

doubt you would get a patent on whats basically a straw though lol

seems really odd they were all falling over themselfs trying to get the woman when usually they would say how you can do it with things available today which were already invented for other purposes.

remember the petrol can that poured smoothly? which normal ones do if you dont tilet them all the way and tip them side ways....

they didnt all want to back that guy for the reason above

I like Theo, seems like a nice bloke in real life as well, spoke to him a couple of times (not enough to make him every remember me though!).
Wife loves (literally) Peter Jones!

The only good thing about Deborah Meaden is the Harry Enfield sketch of her, so funny yet so true!

I love some of the deeply rehersed, highly believable stories as well. "I was sitting with me eight year old one day, guvs, and he asked me, "daddy, why do I need to **** me smith & wesson model 617 every time I miss the pillock jumping through our garden fence?" And at that point I had one of those ulrika.. sorry.... pardon me, eureka moments, my health and safety inspector mode kicked in and I though, right, why don't smith and wesson have a self cocking mechanism made of coat hanger and two pickle jar springs?" and then they shortly add something wise like "I actually sold me house, me car, robbed me gramma and sold missus to yasir slavery down in local Kebab shop to finance the prototype stage"

people always hit them with the health and safety or the beeing green stick.

i remember when it seemed you just had to mention your company was green and they jumped all over you

classic peter vs duncan moment in yesterdays episode lol, peter beeing as smug as ever thinking the investor would choose him, he was even giving it the "i operate in 44 different counties , trade in numerous currency" and the rest of the bs he ocasionaly comes out with.

the guy went with duncan lol :D

i like how the usual people that go on DD seem to think duncan is some old man who runs a few rocky style 1980s gyms and usually turn him down lol nice to see someone realise hes not an old man with a few sweaty gyms

This was genius! It was the manner in which the guy chose Duncan that was the best, Peter rabitting on and the guy just ignors him mid sentence and goes to shake Duncans hand. Brilliant TV!

Duncan was SOOOO smug after that! Brilliant.

Deborah hardly ever invests unless it's a partnership with another dragon, and she declares herself out for the most trivial reasons sometimes. I don't buy the whole 'I have to like the product to invest' line she spins; come on love, if it's going to make you millions you won't care about that!

Is it me or does James Caan seems ignored by the other dragons most of the time? Most of the panto arguments never involve him, and when he makes comments it's rare for any of the other dragons to interrupt him and disagree. Either he never says anything wrong (in their eyes) or they just don't get on with him.

I love the show but wish they'd get rid of the voiceover!

james caan always seems like an outcast in the den or someone whos not worthy....

i like james he seems like a geuine nice bloke if i had offers from everyone i would probably choose james i find his voice strangely relaxing aswell

Wasn't there somebody here on OCUK who had Duncan Bannatyne come to his Dad's business for a show that he was doing for a Sky channel. I'm sure I remember the poster saying that he was pretty uninterested, awkward and grumpy... sure his time is probably precious, but he agreed to do the show.

As for the guy last night who took Duncan Bannatyne's offer. If it was me, I would have gone with Peter Jones, even though I'd be giving 5% more of my company away. At the end of the day, if you are successful on Dragon's Den and have a good Dragon on board, your company is likely to be successful, so you are still going to make a fantastic profit, even though you've give some of it away.
