Ok I know its a bit of an old one but I would really love to get this working multiplayer. It works fine single player on both machines. When I go to multiplayer (tcp/ip) it sees the other game straight away no matter which pc is hosting. But I cant find a way to join!

When I click join, the list refreshes, I cant highlight the game or double click it. the port is correct, we both have the same version. I tried adding the ip to address book but no difference!

Please help out, dying to play this multiplayer today lol.

How'd you get it to run?

it always goes into black blocks that disapere/reapere as the mouse moves over them :(

Hmm, its running fine for me under windows 7. Patched up to 1.7 I just run as windowsxp and admin and no problems. Hasnt crashed once either and it used to crash loads in vista

You need to turn graphics acceleration off and run it as software rendered.

It's in the in-game menus somewhere, basically you need to fumble around until you find it. :)

Are there other connection options besides TCP/IP? If there are you can probably install the protocols and give it a go.

I heard on other forums it allows IPX but ipx isnt available for win7 (32 bit) and the only emulator I know of is within Dosbox, which it cant use as its not a dos game! *cry

I love this game! I cant get it to work online either though :(

Btw did you get this idea from me menchening DK2 in the classics game thread? I love this game so much but people could cheat online :(

hamachi doesn't work either btw.

How about running it in Windows 7's "XP Mode"? Presumably you could run IPX within that.

what graphics card you have? Some old games like S4 i know for fact wont run on a 8800 series card. I had this problem, but for some reason i could run it on my windows ME install on virtual pc.

I used to play the game by running virtual pc (microsoft program thats free) and installing windows ME on it as i cant find my XP. Then i can play all my old games on my vista pc. Not a single game i cant play from the olden days. Even dos games i believe.

use LAN + Hamatchi?

I used to play this with my son. I think we just hooked up the machines together with a long piece of cat5 cable (that was before his machine was attached to our network).

We did manage to get it working through the network recently but one of the machines kept dropping connection.

Our copy was from Sold Out Software and works flawlessly on XP.

It's a shame DK2 is nowhere near as good as the original. Shocking AI (I don't think I ever got attacked by anything other than the odd imp), terrible creature pathing (almost impossible to keep your creatures tighty packed when funneling them into an enemy base - making invading enemy dungeons very inefficient - I won't say difficult because the AI sucked), the new training system was too bothersome (having to keep tossing your creatures into the fight pit), the casino room seemed rather pointless, and trying to get your creatures to actually do what you wanted them to was nowhere near as easy.

Well its a shame DK3 never happened. Cant remember why they decided against it! Evil Genius is the next nearest thing but not nearly as enjoyable.
