Right, my brother has hardly ever cleaned his PS3 and recently the fan has sounded very loud and about every 20 minutes a message pops up saying "The System is hot. Please turn it off."

We recently sent the PS3 to Sony when the problem first arose, but I don't think they did anything except attach a note saying "System very dusty." My brother and I have used a vacuum cleaner to clean out the vents, every day to alleviate the problem to no avail.

So, wise OCUKers, can you offer any other suggestions of getting rid of this dust?

It's an 80GB Fat model if that's any help.

You can set the fans to full blast for a few seconds which should get rid of some dust. From what I remember, you turn the PS3 off completely by flicking the switch at the back of it. Then whilst holding down the eject button and keeping it held down, flick the switch back on. This should fire the fans up to 100% (it will be very loud, so don't worry. Freaked me out the first time I did it!).

Taking a hoover to the vents has always worked for me. If it wasn't in warrenty, I was going to suggest opening it up its not hard to get the dust out that way.

This was why I had my first 60gb replaced. Clogged up with dust which made the fans ramp up immediately. Continuous Play covered me and did a door swap.

Yeah really need to open mine up and give it a good once over, Fans have been getting a bit loud lately.
