DVD Encoding/Shrinking

Hi,
Apologies if I've missed a really obvious thread about this, can't seem to see one.

Can anyone recommend and free or inexpensive software for coverting DVD files into .AVI files (or whatever's best) at around 1.5Gb per 2hrs?

I've tried reading guides online but they're extremely difficult to follow and often go into far too much detail as to what I want.

Basically I want to store my DVD collection onto my HTPC's 1Tb drive, as there's plenty free space on it at the moment.

Help much appreciated!

I use DVD Decryptor to rip the disks to hdd (IFO mode), and then AutoGK (GordanKnot) to convert them to .avi. Seems to do the trick.

DVDFab Platinum. It will rip the disk and out put it to various file types. Very easy to use.

If DVD Decrypter will not rip your DVDs then try DVDFab HD Decrypter along with either (as already mentioned) Handbrake or AutoGK.. no need to spend money on software when the free utilities do it for you...

Nope, the girlfriend decided that she liked going fast in reverse and couldnt decide which of the 4 pedals to press in order to stop the car
