when i go into set defaults for when i play a dvd (autoplay options) i cannot see vlc listed anywhere is there a away to hack this into the list at all?
When you insert a DVD, you get a Windows Action dialogue with the list of options including programs to open the DVD with. Can't you select 'Play with VLC' and set it as the default action?
