DVD recorder remote not working-advice pls

My sony dvd recorder remote control is not working. I have checked the batteries and it's not that. Would a repaire shop be able to fix it?

recorder is 2 years old and out of warranty.

Check that the battery connectors haven't worked loose on the PCB - my daughter had a non-functioning remote - battery connection was a piece of bent springy wire which had worked loose on pcb - resoldered - OK!

Check the command mode of the remote is on the same one as the dvd recorder. - it should be a switch under the slide bit of the remote

I doubt a dealer would repair a remote, it wouldn't be economically viable. They'd probably offer a replacement.

Seeing that the item is out of warranty, it may be best to get an inexpensive universal remote and program it to replace the one broken.
