Hi Guys

I'm looking for a DVD recorder with integrated freeview, dual tuner and hard drive. Cheapest i've found is a wharfdale from argos £200. Anyone know of any cheaper?

Cheers

Wouldn't Buy a wharfdale,

If you do not really need to aurthor to DVD then I suggest A Tevion Model (can't remember but I have one at home) that is a freeview box with a nice interface dual tuners and a 80 gig hard disk.

99.99 inc

noooooo  have alook at `Topfield`you will never look back,2 tuners AND you can record 2 or even 3 channels at the same time
definately the dogs b******s
plus you can customise EVERYTHING about it and connect to pc to backup ;) your recorded programs
toppy for the win :D
only downside (for you)is that it dos`nt have a recordable dvd drive

just arrived. i have to say it looks smaller and nicer than i thought it would. . .

setting her up now :)
just a reminder they run HOT,no fan so don`t be too concerned.tip:try to make plenty of room around the unit and not put another device on top
also that forum i linked too has a post or two about fitting a fan if you are interested :)

sorry for delay, i had the wrong arial connection and had to go out and buy a new lead.

all set up and running and i will be back in a few days with my thoughts.

my only first impression (which im sure i can change) is that i really dont like the main programme guide screen. everything is so big which limits how much can fit on the screen at once. (taps?)

i am using Jags EPG Tap.much better i think than the default epg
loads of other options are available check out that website i posted earlier for suggestions etc :)

In what way is a topfield 5800 better than a sky+ system?

I dont see anything to suggest that its in any way a superior system, it looks customisable which is nice, but the obvious lack of channels and fact that you need an ugly aerial connected to it is a bit of a turn off.

The reason I'm planning on getting one is for an up-front fee, you have free pvr functions and channels indefinitely rather than Sky where you pay for the box, pay for the channels and pay for the privilege of using them every month! Robbing bar stools.

not meant to be for sky+ jez.besides pay your £300 ish and it is FREE for life unlike SKY+ which is what£30 p.m?
for me the toppy wins hands down as there is nothing about sky that interests me...sports :( (which is what the majority of sky users seem to get it for) films ...well i prefer to buy a few dvds now and again :)

What do you mean for sky+? I was comparing the two as they appear to offer similar functionality.

Price wise, £300 upfront vs ~£70 upfront + ~£30pm for all channels bar the movies and sports, or ~£40pm for all channels inclusive.

Not enough of a price difference to really have any impact either way? And with sky you get about a kajillion more channels and a nicer interface?

and in the words of some song....`99 channels AND NOTHING ON` :D
not having a pop at you mate, but sky has never appealed to me :)

For the OP, twin tuner boxes can be found for less than £200, more like ~£130. Check out this listing. The Fusion FVRT145 is listed at £125. I have the FVRT95. I find it to be quite good, very easy to use, but it only has one tuner.
