For the OP, twin tuner boxes can be found for less than £200, more like ~£130. Check out this listing. The Fusion FVRT145 is listed at £125. I have the FVRT95. I find it to be quite good, very easy to use, but it only has one tuner.
not to put your post down in any way mate
but the toppy gets5 stars along with the humax.although the humaz gets the same rating as the toppy if you do a google/reseach on both the toppy is aimed at the enthusiast,i.e.more pc literate and the humax is aimed more at joe bloggs.dont want to get his hands dirty with nasty pc stuff :)
and as you have said the toppy has 2 tuners which gives you the ability to record more than 2 programs at once(do a bit of googling for an explanation) ;)

We all know the Topfields are the best but I bought my missus a Digifusion FVRT90 at christmas (now 95) and she reckons its the best present I've ever bought her. Its very simple to use and hasn't let her down (yet). Only two weeks ago she asked if we can have one for upstairs and if it would be a good idea to have one each for the kids. Argos are selling a twin tuner version for £99 now but not sure if its the same make (Digifusion/Digihome).

I already have two Pioneer DVR530 DVD/HD recorders in the house but I'm waiting for the absolutely amazing DVR545HX to come out.

Hi Andarial,
You seem to have missed the point of my post - its not to say there are better DVRs in their price range than Topfield or Humax (I am well aware of their specs). The OP asked if there are cheaper (than £200) dual tuners around and there are. I have the single tuner Digifusion and it works well, so I would (presume) the dual tuner version to also be acceptable.

sorry you are correct(thatll teach me to read posts more accurately :) )
as a side note watch out fort hese `Dual Tuner` types that argos etc sell, yes they may have 2 tuners but a lot,not all.only let you record ONE channel at a time (i.e. you can only watch one channel and record one channel, you cannot record 2 channels or more like the toppy)

He's right.

I bought the Digifusion FVRT90 at christmas for the wifes kitchen and she loves it. This morning she asked if we could have one for the bedroom (where she does the ironing) so I've just got back from a High Street store and the Ferguson version of it is now £89 - bargain.
So easy to use even a woman can do it.

Are there any DVD recorder/freeview/HDD units that allow the UOP (User Operation) to be disabled?

huh - what would be the point?

Surely every operation is "User" unless you mean front panel or remote deactivation?

Please be more speciific

I have had a look at the Toppy site linked above and I just cant see any benefit to paying this much money (just under £300) for a decent dual tuner recorder (after all you can get decent dual tuner pcie cards which will record the same stuff onto an internal hdd for under 1/2 that)

Ok the front end may be a lot better - but is that worth £150 or so?

Anyway my single freeview tuner dvd/hdd recorder does wonders for the moment (which I got for around the same price a few months ago the Toppy 5800 costs now)

uhhh 2 tuners with the ability to record 3 or more channels at once :D
so in effect it is 3 hdd recorders how much would 3 digifusion/fergusons cost? plus they are aimed more at enthusiasts not joe muppet who has seen the ads on telly and thinks i want one of those :)

How often do most actually need to record two channels simultaneously let alone three!!!

I have needed to a handful of times, and most of the time one at least is a film filled with ads that puts me off anyway

100% sure the the Topfields can only record two different channels at the same time. However, while recording those two channels you can watch another two different channels using picture in picture technology.

Only just found out that my wifes Digifusion can record a channel while playing back something she's already recorded - which is useful. I didn't know because its not my toy.

@ frankjh
for me having the ability to record 2 channels is a godsend, back in the days of vcrs(aint i showing my age :p )
i always had 2 under the tv,cos i was always either wanting to tape 2 programs or watch something i had recorded earlier, when there was something else recording
what can i say ?i am a tv/movie addict :D
