Ok Basically DVD RW has stopped appearing in Windows.

My DVD drive has started doing that?? And now it won't appear in Computer.

Basically what happened, I left a towell ontop of my pc by accident lol and it got hot and did the blue screen.
Windows come back on and I was going to burn a CD and thought where has my DVD drive gone???

I did Windows repair and checked System restore nothing had changed and Windows repair didn't fix anything.

To test if it wasn't a hardware problem I tried booting Windows from Bios on DVD and it worked fine, so it's not a hardware problem, it's a problem with Windows.

I am totally lost??!! Please someone help me, I don't want to have to reinstall Windows 7 over something so silly.

Cheers,
Aly

Open up the properties in Device Manager and let me know the error code it provides. For a certain one (can't remember which), there's a registry fix to bring it back.

I had forgotten about this but just found the procedure :)

In the start menu search, type in ‘regedit’ and hit enter.
The registry editor will now open. Look for the below registry key;

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Control \ Class \ (4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318)

In the right window, right click on UpperFilters and delete it.
Also, right click again on LowerFilters and delete it as well.
Restart your computer for changes to take effect.

This worked for me in the past on a mates machine.
