DVD RW

why is my DVD RW drive being picked up as a CD rom?
i have checked connections and such but dont know if there is anything eles i can look for? or is it broken?

may be a firmware issue google your drive to see if there is an updated firmware release

had a quick google and i get a load of how to make it multi region
and i dont even know how to flash it
some kind person have a quick look for me plese? this is the drive

have you actually tried burning stuff with it?

ha, ye i just loose the plot when stuff like this happens,
i have tryed to burn a dvd with it and it wont have none of it
when there is nothing in the drive it comes up as a DVD ROM, then when i go to put a blank dvd in it comes up as CD ROM...
playes dvds fine

well that is strange as drives are plug and play but did it come with a driver disk if so try installing that but i have tried searching for a firmware update and can't seem to find anything but i'll keep looking for you


but does not sound good try it on another ide channel worth a try

hmm, my mainboad only has one lol AN52.. i think ill call em up tomrrow and see what they say, it was OEM so i did not get nothing, most probs RMA it

what OS are you using?

If you can burn off DVD's then it's not broke. I recall DVD drives sometimes display as "CD-ROM" in Windows Explorer.

nero and the one in adobe elements 4? nero will not see that there is a dvd there, nor windows when i put a blank dvd in
