dvd upscaling software

Technically speaking your software DVD player will upscale it to whatever resolution you run at, won't it? Albeit it isn't as good quality as the ffdshow method, which itself is nowhere near true HD quality.

im not sure it works like that.
i dont beleive im watching DVD's on my pc at 1280X1024 resolution.
would be nice though..

ffdshow can do it, but you need a DVD software program capable of using external filters - theatertek is one.

I'm doing a new build HTPC next week, will be for DVD & 1080i high def (projector use but can also set it up for an LCD)

got a few spare hard drives so I'll try & do some guides from scratch on using Theatertek/purevideo, ffdshow & also give the modded version of dscaler a go. Will be based around MCE2005, but I will also be trying out media portal as I'm a big fan of XBMC

do bear in mind if you are going to use ffdshow or dscaler to post process your video you will need a powerful system.

I'll be putting a thread up in the home cinema forum, should start in a week or so & probably take a week to finish..
