DVI-D dual link to hdmi or dp cable

oh well...another £15 wasted....adapter arrived and it doesn't work...its a "Newlink" branded one...looks identical to your one...screen blinks briefly....dropping the resolution down to 1080p makes no difference either....tried other cables too just in case.

Works fine with my olde Samsung monitor from 15 years ago...24" 1080p@60Hz so at least it won't go to waste as I can use it for that as its VGA and DVI only inputs.
I have a vague memory that the HZ27C doesn't have a scaler chip in it, and thus can't directly display any res except 1440p. Normally the GPU takes care of scaling lower resolutions up to 1440p for the monitor, but if you use an adapter that's limited to 1080p that can't happen and the monitor won't give any picture. The big old Samsung 305t that I use my DP>DL-DVI converter with is much the same, it has no scaler and can only display native 2560x1600 or 1280x800, that's it. Feed it 1080p via a single-link DVI converter and it just blanks out.

I think the same thing is happening with your Hazro.

Could you test one before I buy...since you have the Hazro monitor too...27" 1440p DVI-D Dual link input only?

The model number of mine Is HZ27WC

Bought mine from ocuk when they first appeared about 9 years ago..great monitor ...

Happy to buy the adapter from you but only if you can guarantee it will work with 2550x1440 at 60Hz like its meant to?

Thanks :)

There is a hurdle in the way.

First of all, the office staff such as myself are working remotely at present due to the goverment lockdown.

Off the top of my head i'm not exactly sure of the model of Hazro monitor I have but it is definitely 1440P.
Once Lockdown is relaxed and i'm back in the office I can happily have a look at what's running my monitor (presuming it's the correct model) and assist further.

Was ordering a new sound card so decided to just order one to see if it works :)

If it doesn't then it's the star tech active usb powered one at about £120 or a new monitor....will report back :)

It's probably not practicable, but I have wondered if it would be possible to replace the electronics in the display to add the ports required?

People do convert old laptop screens into small monitors by buying interface cards, and they aren't necessarily very expensive. If you knew the model number of the panel the monitor uses a suitable interface card might be available.

People have tried this in the past and mostly got nowhere. Laptops tend to use a small number of standardised video input connectors, but desktop screens generally don't. Even if the controller board and LCD panel use the same physical connector, it's probably wired up very differently and may use a completely alien protocol. LCD panel manufacturers don't, with very few exceptions, make the datasheets for their screens public, so there's no help to be had there.

Hopefully countries will start passing right to repair laws and we'll actually get access to the necessary information to make this viable in future, but for now it isn't really.

It is almost certainly not worth the hassle, but driver boards with DP inputs are available for the panel the HZ27WC uses (LM270WQ1). They're targetted at the LM270WQ1-SDC2 used in Apple's 27" iMac from that time. The exact part number from the Hazro may be different enough not to be compatible, but you never know.

I think if was my display I'd be cracking it open and finding the full part number and searching for a driver board. It could be a fun little project and about half the cost of buying a DP to DVI adapter that's guaranteed to work.

Up to 1920x1200 60Hz works with single link signal.
Going higher than 2560x1600@30Hz needs dual link.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Visual_Interface#Specifications

Without resolution specs any "converters" are bound to be dumb mechanical adapters no matter if they claim to be active.
3840x2160@30Hz specification is needed for any hope of being actual signal converter capable to outputting dual link DVI.

Just a thought, but does the Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter work with non-Apple devices? There's also a Dell KDP70 adapter that's worth a look.

The Apple one works fine. I have two dual link active adapters and one is the Apple one. I used it on various GPU's and a Dell 3007 2560x1600 monitor.
