Hi.

A VGA adapter won't work in DVI-D connector because DVI-D is digital only.

If you want to use a VGA adapter you need to use a DVI-I connector as it has digital and analogue signals.

I'll ignore DVI-A as very few devices have them.

Hi there,

Unfortunately if it is a DVI-D (digital only) port, then it won't work with a DVI to VGA adapter - since these adapters need a DVI port that outputs an anlogue signal to work, such as a DVI-I or DVI-A.

Could you plug your monitor into the VGA port on the motherboard, or is it already being used?

Does your monitor(s) have a DVI-D or HDMI input?

DVI-D is digital only. It can't send analogue signals hence why an adapter doesn't work.

Is it the onboard on the motherboard? There's a native VGA port on it you can use instead.

ive got a dvi-d to dvi-i adaptor then a dvi-i to vga adaptor plugged into that

That won't work at all. The port from the motherboard sends digital signals, the DVI-D to DVI-I (if there is such a thing at all) doesn't make the port magically able to send VGA signals. All an adapter does is rearrange the pin layout, only active ones can convert the digital signals to analogue. But these are very, very expensive.

If you want a second monitor then I suggest getting a cheap graphics card instead with a DVI-I port and a VGA port.

1 x Asus HD 5450 SILENT 512MB GDDR3 PCI-Express Low Profile Graphics Card £21.49
Total : £25.40 (includes shipping : £3.26).

ok thanks gonna get a hdmi to vga cable then i think and use the hdmi port on the motherboard

HDMI is digital only. It's exactly the same as DVI-D, except with the ability to send sound.

Again, that type of port (HDMI) only sends a digital signal and a cable (unless it is a very expensive active one, which does digital to analogue conversion) is just a passive pin switcher and the VGA port on the monitor can't understand the digital signal, so won't display a picture.

As the motherboard manual and spec clearly states, if you want to run two monitors off that motherboard then one monitor needs to use the VGA connection while another uses a digital (DVI-D or HDMI) connection. It can't run two monitors that only have analogue VGA inputs.

The graphics card Orcvader suggests is a good one. It only costs £21.49 and it offers you a VGA and DVI-I connections - so with the use of a passive DVI-I to VGA adapter you could run two VGA monitors with this card. Also, it is considerably more powerful than the onboard graphics of your motherboard.

yeh im gonna bite the bullet n gt the card i not the onboard on this thing isnt the best but they system is 6 years old with a few upgraqdes due to parts stoppping working namly the mobo 3 times lol

That card is a really good deal at the moment (weekly deal so only £21.49) and when you upgrade your system you could always re-use it or sell it.
