Dvi - HDMI adaptor?

You need to be very careful - ATi do use a propriety pin layout in their dvi-hdmi dongles. You will be able to get video with a standard dongle, but to get audio you will need an ATi one - they can be had cheaply from ATi direct, or, if you ask nicely, the helpful chaps at OcUK should send you one! ;)

I'm sure i read somewhere that sapphire supply the dongle. Thats one of the reasons for choosing this card. I just wanted conformation.

As to the other part of the question....will it output 1080p & 7.1 audio through HDMI even though the motherboard is only 4X pci-e slot?

Or would i be better off posting in the motherboard area?

Recently purchased a Sapphire card a 3450 that did not come with the HDMI Adapter.

Sapphire will not sell me one and ATI dont seem at all interested.

Dear Sir : Actually , the HD3450 series do not bundle with HDMI adapter.
And customers need to purchase it by themselves.
We also cannot sell this part to customers due to official rule.
Sorry about this inconvenience. Thank You

So its worth checking with OcUK before purchasing.

It is a bit of an odd one - officially ATi will only sell it to you as a replacement from a lost/damaged one that came bundled with your unit - and only they are allowed to sell them - which means that if your card doesn't arrive with the dongle then technically it is not capable of running audio over hdmi... which is the very definition of false advertising -

I'm going to fire off an email to the Trading Standards lot just because it's been gritting my s*** for a while now (since my 2400 actually) The companies certainly need a big slap for this and I am disappointed with ATi.

On the plus side, I found OcUK hugely helpful when this happened to me - they just tossed one in the mail free of charge - love you guys...sniff... :D It's why I keep coming back!

Right, below is the complaint that I fired off to the Advertising Standards Agency:

Sapphire Tech claim that the above card (as well as the 2400, 2600, 2900, 3400, 3600, 3800, 4600, 4800 series) allows for audio over hdmi. This is untrue. The card is technically capable of passing audio over hdmi via a proprietary dvi-hdmi converter, but it is not supplied by Sapphire with the product, they will not sell it to the end user, and ATi do not allow the sale of the dongle if it was not part of the original package. Therefore, if the card is not packaged with the converter (as is the case for most of the listed cards) it IS NOT capable of running audio over hdmi as advertised

If they do clamp down on them I will then pass along the details of all of the other offenders - it would be very helpful if anyone who has received any of the ATi HD cards from the 2000 series up to the latest 4000 ones, without the dongle, could let me know the manufacturer and model of the card an I will pass the details along.

(I'm going to post this up in a fresh thread and see if we can do something about this once and for all. Pretty shameful that they have gotten away with this for so long.)

Hi guys,

does anyone know if this card comes with the Dvi-HDMI adaptor?

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-184-SP&tool=3

I'm presuming it will work fine in an Asrock 4CoreDual-VSTA agp/pci-e motherboard and be able to output 1080p & 7.1 sound through the HDMI cable.

Thanks

I bought one a few weeks ago, it comes with the following:

DVI>HDMI adaptor
DVI>D-SUB adaptor
S-Vid>Component RCA adaptor
S-Vid >Composite RCA adaptor
Driver CD
Case Badge

Sorry I don't think I was clear its on a trade price list and is sold seperatly. Why do ATI forbid it anyway is there a licencing issue?

There was a real stink about this about 8 months ago. ATi's position is that they will only supply the dongle as a replacement for a lost/broken part that came with the card. If the card is supplied without a dongle then you are not entitled to one and they forbade it's 'after market' sale to the consumer. Why? Stupidity... Mean spiritedness... I'm not sure. I can only assume that the partners pay a premium to include the audio-over-hdmi feature, and since it's not worth the cost of running 2 different boards, one with and one without, they simply limit the option by not supplying the dongle - pure speculation, but the only thing that makes any sense to me - I would fire off an email to ATi, but so far everyone who has questioned them on this issue has received a good stiff ignoring - a real shame considering how godd their reputation is otherwise.
