Hello,

I have a amd sapphire 6970 HD 1GB GDDR5 - with two DVI ports at the back I tried plugging in second monitor with VGA to DVI converter but its not detecting the Monitor

My main Monitor works fine but when I try and connect it to the second DVI it does not work

is there no signal in the second port? is it faulty? any help ?

thank you

What happens when you swap them round ? Surely you have tried using your main monitor in the 2nd DVI port to test it before posting a query ?

yes I have tried main monitor in second port no luck it doesn't "beep" when you plug it in like the top DVI port

and How do you enable second monitor in CCC I have been in my computer > manage > device manager > and tried detecting the second monitor no luck with that either

Did you plug the monitor in with the PC off then switch PC on ? Also what happens when you run the 2nd monitor in the first DVI port with the DVI > VGA convertor ?

I pluged in the second monitor while the PC was on

and

I pluged in 2nd monitor in the first DVI port - works there so I think the problem is in the second DVI ... or is there a conflict ... both ports a DUAL LINK DVI-V

I would have thought if you have tested both monitors independently in DVI port 2 and they dont display a picture or are detected by Windows and they both work fine in port 1 then the port is faulty.

Normally does not matter which DVI port you use on your graphics card they both should give you the same display.

Sorry It's 6870 not 6970 my type error - I did some research on google earlier and seems to be very common problem with 6*** series ..... and puppetmaster what was your solution ? I mean both of my monitors are with VGA cables ...

can I use the HDMI port to connect one of the monitors and the other the DVI port , but I think it's faulty because both Monitors don't work when pluged into the second DVI.

also when I plug in any of the monitors into the 1st DVI - there is a short "beep" but no beep in when I plug them into the 2nd DVI

My solution is having my 24" connected via HDMI and my 19" connected with vga through a dvi converter into the top port. From looking on google before when i built my pc in january, it seems the 2nd port doesnt work with a converter.

I would suggest seeing if you can get hold of something which is hdmi or dvi to test the 2nd port.

so this is a manufacturer sort of fault? I mean even if I go back and ask for a new one it be the same i guess, it is really annoying having two ports and one is pointless i guess I am gona have to buy VGA to HDMI port converter cheap links ?

Only one DVI connector on the 6870 is dual link. The other is single link.

It's not a "fault", it's just the way the cards work, as has been said, they're DVI-D ports, so digital only, like how passive DP to DVI/HDMI cables don't work on all the mini DP ports.

ok so which one of this would work cause I am getting a bit confused now

VGA to DVI-I cabele SO I plug in the VGA end ot my Monitor and the DVI to the PC

or

VGA to HDMI

and what might be better cause both methods the cables for them on ebay are around 5 pounds wich is ok for me
