DVI vs VGA

hello all, got a question bout dvi and vga. what is the difference?? ive had to connect my monitor using a vga cable and dvi adapter (gfx cards r 8800gtx's) because of a problem with vista 64, everything is working so far but what am i loosing going back to vga??

Not really, i use a DVI to VGA converter and compared to just VGA (which ive tried on the same card) there's no difference.

I find DVI a pain in the arse sometimes. Probably just a cheap cable I'm using (although I have tried several), but i find you really have to tighten the connectors up well particularly the screen end (I have a Stamsung 225BW).

Annoyingly, mavity goes about it's habit and slowly pulls the DVI lead out, and all of a sudden, I have no picture! Never had to screw VGA cables in properly.

As for quality differences, I'm unsure of them to be honest, I've never really noticed the difference between the 2.

i get that too, sometimes the screen goes purple, sometimes blue, sometimes green. and sometimes no prictue at all. my feet aren't long enough to push it back in with my toes

Never had any problems with it. DVI CAN provide a better picture than VGA and doesnt require centering etc, as its all taken care of by the digital link. Really how good they are however depends on your monitor as some monitors are better at VGA or DVI, or are equal.

Just did a little test

DVI picture is marginally better on a big tv when in the higher resolutions (1080p),
this is based on DVI->HDMI on a Samsung M86 compared to VGA at 1080p

But on my monitor there is no visible difference

DVI is considerably better on my old dell 2405 running at native resolution.With VGA the text looks quite blurry in comparison.

DVI is a lot better than VGA id your monitor or Display (tv) is high res if not then it will not mkae much difference at all

DVI is basicaly HDMI without the capacity for audio transger

In my experience, when going up to 1280x1024 there is virtually no difference between VGA and DVI. However when running 1680x1050 and over DVI is vastly better, at least on my displays.
