DVLA issue with updating my address

Hey guys,

Moved house at the beginning of August, and on the day I applied online to update my license. Sent off the form with my license and awaited the new one.

3 weeks later and there's nothing. Call them and surprise, they haven't received it. She extended the deadline and told me to send off another form with a cover letter to explain. After doing that the same day, I called back on Wednesday to say that I am yet to receive anything, the lady checked and again she claims they've not received anything.

Now unfortunately my passport has expired too so I'm left without any form of proper ID, so I want it sorted quickly. But the DVLA claim they can't do anything for another week at least and then I'll just have to send off another form which no doubt they'll lose as well. I've called since and the lady wasn't much help saying she can't suggest anything until 3 weeks has passed since I re-sent the form

Is there anything I can do? Do the post office do any kind of check and sign service like with passports? I nearly lost out on buying the car yesterday because of the lack of ID situation.

Thanks guys

How come you had to send your licence in?

When I updated my provisional not long before I got my full licence it was just a case of a few clicks on the DVLA website and them telling me I should send my old one back when I got my new one.

I have no idea, it seems like a stupid thing to have to do, but they request you cut your license in half then send it back with the form as it's an official form of ID

I had to google it to make sure I wasn't getting mugged off

Not sure why you've had to send anything off - I updated my address a few weeks ago on their website without having to send anything. Took about a week to get my new license. I think the letter which comes with the new license stated I needed to send my old one back, which I didn't do and instead chopped it up into the bin (am I going to jail?).

I've just checked again for my own sanity, it definitely says to send it off with the form! I knew I shouldn't have bothered and just waited until I got my new one

Sorry didn't see that post.

Yes it was sent recorded. Was apparently signed for but they can't find anything in their system to say it was ever received :(

I've got them to send me another form now. Let's try again

Given that you can renew your passport up to 9 months in advance, there is no excuse for letting it lapse.

I can't do it now as I don't know my driver number as I had to send the bloody thing off :D

You mean to say that you didn't write those numbers down?
