OK you guys can have a laugh at me. I bought Game of thrones Season 8 from this site.

What I got is a link to a mediafire site where I can download it. It says it was uploaded by some one called ***********. The files are 1.5GB there are 6 each names after each episode of the season 8 episodes.
So far I have downloaded the first one, its MP4 and I've played the first 30 seconds and all seems OK.

*** Removed link to illegal downloads, please do not post this again ***

Why did I do it. because I'm a numpty, yes. because I dont know anything about this stuff, because I was very tired the few days before Christmas and looking for a present for my wife. because I mistook the site for a legitimate site selling DVD's and was expecting it to arrive in the post. because it was presented as a legitimate google shopping results along side all the others. because I was using my mobile phone not a laptop to look at the site (a lot of sites look a little less pro in this format).

Why am I telling you this on this forum? Because I just realised it was a download not a real DVD and got suspicious, so I googled DVSales site to look for reviews. there is a link on the Martin Lewis money forum talking about it and linked to this discussion. hence I thought I would add my comments to the discussion in the hope that it helps someone else.

To conclude. I think the site is a scam in that it is not clear that I was buying a download and I am not convinced that it is a legal download. but on the other hand, I got what I paid for (a download) and I have not (yet) had any further fraud attempts on my card nor was it a virus that I downloaded.

You bought a DVD and got a download link for a pirated version.

Just lol! It’s basically a site charging you for pirate bay links.

sadly that would seem to be the case. Im not happy that Google promotes this as legitimate. Im a numpty, but im a numpty thats about to watch GOTS8 for the first time. im actually not that chuffed that its not legal, but theirs not much I can do about that now. I have suffered a lot worse hits than this im my life

Ever heard of something called 'the police'? You were robbed/conned. And to make matters even worse, it's not even a good quality rip. What's the resolution and bitrate of the file, it can't be any good if it's only a 1.5GB mp4 file.

OK Ive just cancelled the debit card that I used to pay for it.
Where/how does one report to Googles that a site is not a liget seller?
do to police really get involved in stuff like this?

Google do not promote it. These are paid for ads. It says "sponsored" in the corner.

Google doesn't go round checking the billions of ads connected to adwords. You'll see how dvsale are nowhere to be seen in the organic listings.

I also doubt they have paid for much of a budget. We could all drain their adwords budget by clicking on the ads.

They likely use a legitimate payment processing service. Complain to the provider.

If you read his post it's 1.5Gb per episode, which will be decent quality even in 1080p (with some black crush in the dark areas however), just that he paid for something that he could have easily got the same for free.

I did read his post and know exactly what he said. 1.5GB for a single episode is dire, a decent file would be around the 3.5GB for a *.mkv, in fact I believe the 1080p GoT S8 episodes I watched were around the 5-6GB mark each.

Yes same for me as i'm a picture quality whore :D, (Lost in Space in 4K at 15Gb each for example) But nick323f seemed like a very casual watcher where 1.5Gb for someone like him would be acceptable, and it won't be unwatchable, just a lot of compression and macro blocking in the dark areas.

we have a 48in 1080HD TV the picture quality seems at least equal to that of the real DVDs that Ive have. (actually just watching the final episode of Season 7 now, before watching the rest of Season 8)
your right, im a very casual watcher.

note. im posting this stuff mostly so that others can learn from my mistake, just trying to give an honest representation of what I got for 8GBP :)

I get the 350 meg ones, good enough for my 24" TV I sit 3 feet from or my phone.
