DX 10.1 - Why you DO need it.

so dx10 uses AA automaticly? which would explain the slowdown in dx10 games.
It doesn't use it automatically, DX10.1 just says that games must support at least 4xAA. If you have a game that doesn't support antialiasing at all you're going to run into problems when coding it.

At least I think that's how it goes, can't remember.

So does this mean that the R600 approach to AA (3850, 3850)will start performing better? Or is it totally unrelated

Nice article for a change :)

If games are patched to 10.1 when vista sp1 finally turns up (or they release 10.1 early as a seperate code download), then chances are there for AA to be enabled with deferred rendering (i.e. STALKER and games that use deferred rendering).

Pretty neat stuff. Shame the only dx 10 cards are quite slow :(

I SERIOUSLY hope ati bring out some XTX style cards with this new 3 series. Where is the performance :(

Should do, but the engine needs to support it, and with most devs being TWIMTBP partners, I can't see it happening until nVidia get a DX10.1 card out, so ATi looses the initiative. :(

According to that article, engines should support it with just a patch.
