DX10....Why??

But there are far more PC gamers than console gamers, right ?

HEADRAT

there may be more "potential" PC games than console gamers, however that doesnt mean they spend more time playing games on their PC as opposed to their consoles.

DX10=hype

did anyone really notice the jump from DX8 to DX9? (C)

Please do. We talking games or OS here?
Games.

Very few decent development companies work only with consoles to the best of my knowledge.
What about Criterion (Burnout series), Bizarre (Project Gotham series), Polyphony Digital (Gran Turismo series), Tecmo (Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden series) off the top of my head. All awesome games, all console exclusives. And there are many more.

lol ;) Truth be told, the 'jump' between DX8 and DX9 was cigarette-paper thin. I wonder what DX9 to DX10 will be like. I'm doing a good job of containing my excitement ;)

For some DX10 game footage, download some crysis demos (the more recent ones). Re: console vs pc numbers. I currently have 4 consoles which I never use (impulse buys) and buy all my games for PC. console just can't compete with mouse/keyboard control system.

Am I also right in thinking that Vista and a DX10 card is needed for HD-DVD / blu-ray playback (HDCP compliance)?

More energy seems to be put into developing for consoles rather than PC's it seems, as stated above the pc games are often months or years afterwards and the performance isnt anything special at all.

Most games are decently coded from a performance point of view, it's only recently I upgraded my 3 year old PC because I was having to turn settings down far enough for stuff to not look pretty.

Bugs are another issue - I suspect now that consoles are web enabled, we'll start seeing more developers willing to push games out before they're quite ready on the grounds they can be patched...

As for developers, there are exceptions to every rule but generally my statement is true and theres plenty of great franchises that haven't made it to the consoles or have been horribly butchered in the process.

There are a strange lack of good racing games on the PC though, dunno why.

Maybe a stupid question, but why is DX10 Vista exclusive? Is it not possible to write a version for XP? Or were they running out of reasons to make people buy Vista? :p
