DX10

just a simple question

If my card (7800GT) dont support DX10 , wen it comes out and i try to run games with DX10 what will happen? will i lag like poo? bcoz ll the ATI X??? series dont support SM3 but yet if i play hl2 with HDR it still ahve the same effect but just a bit laggy.

in theory it should just be like playing DX9 games on a DX8 card. So either the developer will be stupid and lazy and you will get an error, or more likely you will just "lose" the DX9 features.

However, the negative affect is slightly higher (from what I last heard) as Vista (the only platform which will have DX10) wont have any other DX stuff installed.... instead DX9 and below will be emulated by the DX10 platform giving a slightly higher performance hit.

Knowing MS though... Dx10 will be chopped

Vista got put back to 2063, didn't you hear? It got shipped off to valve for development.

so whats going to happen to DX8 games and below, looks like XP is gona be around much longer than people think. Iam still gona wona play me old games for a very long time.

I seem to remember some of GTA1 running into trouble because of poor coding practise. When I upgraded from DX3 to 5 the game flew!
