DX11? is it needed?

Dx 11 is needed just like DX9 and DX10 was.you have to keep advancing and DX 11 has lots of cool stuff like better multithreading and performance, not to mention im sure a key requirement was 4xAA, there are too many crap games out there atm without AA and its sickening.

DX 11 in time will sort out all crap out and force the next breed of consoles hopefully to adapt 4XAA and better multithreading too!

To be very honest DX10 isn't even really needed.

How many games out there require you to have DX10?

I don't know of any but i'm sure some other members can list some.

"spent over £200 and wouldnt run crysis to full potential"
Well... thats not surprising, £200 is like a 5850, and well crysis is a B***h to play on well any card out there, don't go on playing crysis to the max with awesome framerates, going to be expensive..

I spent 700 quid on graphics cards and there are still scenes that dip too low, and average is still only 30 to 40 fps... it's playable on max, but not ideal still... I reckon next gen will be needed to finally kill that game!

I don't buy a card for it's DirectX support. If there was a card released tomorrow that was HD5870 speed for £250 but only had DirectX 9 i'd be all over it like a rash.

Having said that, each to their own, etc.

I'd agree if all games were still built with directx 9, but the more games that abandon it in favour of DX10 as a baseline, the more people simply have to upgrade to compatible hardware.

Happily, though, your point should still stand in general for some time to come simply because some people still use XP, thus to not include DX9 would cut out a good portion of the potential market.

3 games (released ones anyway) are noted as having DX 10 as a minimum requirement.

That's very low and DX10 has been out for 3 years.

The question should be "Is DX10 needed?".Never mind DX 11.

The answer to that question depends which catergory you fall under, hardcore gamer, hardware bencher, programmer, hardware developer the list goes on. =)

I guess you will get different answers from different people, but coming from a gaming/graphics card point of view Id go with yeah. Improvements no matter how small/large are always welcome imo.
