Recently built an i7 based gaming rig. With my ATI HD 5850 came a free copy of AVP. Cool right? Problem is, there is a major issue in DX11. I didn't know how to describe it in technical language, so I've captured it and put it on youtube.

The lag in the video was caused by the capture, and the poor quality in general is only due to converting the file for a fast upload. The problem I'm trying to solve is the weird rings you can see around the light shining through the canopies. This problem is only apparent in DX11.

Does anyone know how to fix it?

Please be VERY precise - I really would like to solve this and get it 100% right.

Thanks in advance.

That does look a bit strange.

Your obviously using the most recent drivers, and have applied the application profiles? (New driver released today, worth a shoot)

Also check all things such as: reseat the card, make sure all power cables are connected properly, etc...

Is this the only game your seeing these issues?

Maybe send a webnote through to overclockers them selves (if you bought it from there) and see what they say.

Sorry I can help other than that.

Thanks for the quick response. I haven't got any other DX11 games installed YET. But that's my next step for testing. What do you mean by application profile? I might have applied them and not even realised it - this is the first decent graphics card I've ever had so I don't have much experience trying to optimise them.

Thanks again.

On the amd driver page it has a few different options.

You can either choose to install the full driver package which includes the display driver and the catalyst control center

or

You can install the individual components individually.

What I do (becuase I dont like the catalyst control center, but it gives you access to advanced features of your graphics card) is I download the display driver, and the application profiles seperatly, and install the display driver first, jump through all the hoops reboot if needed and then install the application profiles.

Your see the profiles on the website listed as a seperate package.

I couldnt see any profiles listed for XP, so I dont think it applies but as your talking about DX11, I assume your on Vista or Windows 7.

Are you using Windows 7/ Vista 32 or 64?

This is one thing I dont like about ATI's new strategy. They have seperated the application profiles, out of the display drivers.

The benefit is that they can update the profiles more quickly, but the negative is that it confuses people who dont understand, or even know that they need them.

Some dont realise single card users need them to not just crossfire users.

I've just reinstalled the new release but it's still no better. I'll try the individual driver install like you suggested.

And it's Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

Why do you ask?

I've tried and failed. Can I simply download dx11 again? Also? I asked someone earlier about applying a profile or something or other? Can anyone fill me in? Thanks.

Its probably the card, but as a test try it my way.

First thing to do is make sure your version of vista is up to date.

Run the windows update thingy....

After that, try installing the drivers my way, something (doubtful) in the catalyst control center may be causing the issue (hence why I dont install it)

First unistall all ATI softwae from your machine. Go add remove, and express unistall everything, choose yes when asked to unistall the install/unistall wizard.

Reboot.

Go to your programs file directory and delete any ati folders in there.

Now download the Display drivers from here: http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=vista64/common-vista64

3rd download button down

and download the ATI CrossFireX™ Application Profiles 2 nd download button.

Install the display drivers first, and then reboot.

After reboot, install the ATI CrossFireX™ Application Profiles just by double clicking.

Try to play the game.

If its still screwed, RMA the card, by contacting Overlclockers.

What refresh rate is your monitor set to?

I found that some games do something similar when running my Viewsonic VX2260 at 2ms refresh. Setting it to 5ms in the panel's OSD cured the problem and isn't noticeably laggier than 2ms to be honest.

Worth a try anyway, good luck.

I've tested dx11 on Metro 2033. No issues. Mass Effect 2 with the older DX is just fine. Downloading loads of demos from steam to try out. Also going to put the card in a different computer as well. Still haven't fixed it. If I find a solution, I will post again.
