You might be fortunate and find the new ati cards are already dx11 compliant since dx 10 spec had to be dumbed down to support nvidias version of dx10 ;)

Well if Microsoft is to have any credibility this will be released for Vista, in which case this is just a nice bonus for us all and something to be happy about, always good to have the software already in place for future games. If on the other hand this will only be released for Windows 7, which has the same driver model as Vista(the reason for not releasing DX10 on WinXP was the new driver model), Microsoft will have a lot of explaining to do.

...I dual boot but Vista x64 has been pretty much flawless for me and performance (file transfer not included) is pretty much the same as xp. I rarely boot into xp apart from to play bf2142 and that's down to creatives poor Vista drivers anyway.

Well one of the "big" DX11 features is tessellation, something ATI has had since R600 ;)

Hmm... I don't know enough about graphics technology to understand whether Tessellation/Displacement, Multithreaded Rendering and Compute Shaders are a big deal or not, but what about software anti-aliasing, something which was supposed to be in DX10 and Ati actually had working, but got cut out of the feature list due to Nvidia's insistent pleading with MS because they couldn't implement it? (The fact that it was originally designed around software AA was the reason the r600's performance took such a hit when AA was turned on btw) Or the ability to page VRAM to the hard drive, something that was also supposed to be in DX10, and was in fact the original reason why DX10 was to be Vista-exclusive (XP's virtual memory management couldnt' page VRAM)?

As some one said earlier in the post "what games had we had out which run in DX10 and a decent fpswhich" is ture. I think the problems all come back to crysis IMO if it had worked a dream and ran well then people wont be saying "DX11 is waste they need to get DX10 working first" Or maybe MS know DX10 has been such a flop (maybe its not crysis fault maybe it is DX10??) they need a releash a new DX.

Oh you mean the fact that vista takes longer to calculate the time to transfer the file than actaully transfer it?

That's why I dual boot. File transfers done in xp after one day when I wanted to copy 250gb over to a new hard drive and vista reckons it was going to take 44 hours

it was along time ago that this happened, way before SP1 even.

i'm all for slating inferior products but the Vista bashing is over the top and wide of the mark generally, apart from DX10 which is a disgrace lol.

I am using Vista 64-bit at home and since i am working in a very small company we gave a shot on Vista 64-bit there aswell. PC seems more responsive and much less crashing then with XP at least from my experience.
Now as for DX11 i have the feeling that Microsoft doesn't want another fiasco so i have high hopes that they shall produce something much more solid than DX10. The new features sound nice and there are some features than ATI has been supporting for quite a while and it would be nice to see games using such technology in the future.

Funny, i was at a 84k user company today and saw Vista running on all new PC's.

I'm sure you know best though....

Of course the users who don't use vista & bash it have more knowledge & experience of vista than those who have been using it from release....Oh that don't sound logical tho....

Same old arguments....
Just to throw it out there, my Gigabit Network file transfer speeds between my Vista x64 box and Server 2003 are way above anything i got under XP.
Under XP I got around 50MB/s, under Vista I get 95MB/s sustained copying 8 Gig DVD ISO's. That's without using Jumbo Frames too.

Usability is way up, start menu searching and the redesigned windows explorer are fantastic, and totally integrated with how i work now. Lots of nice little tweaks everywhere, like with performance monitoring and the task scheduler.

It's not perfect, but as a complete package, it beats XP.

Directx 10 games? There hasn't been any 'exclusively dx10 games' released as far as i know yet so therefore Directx10 features on games. Bioshock with the extra effects of dx10 etc.

Directx10 has been borked anyway with nvidia preventing the original msoft dx10 specs.

dx10.1 the way to go...:D

I reckon that the new dx will also work on Vista.

Doesn't bother me..with the talk of dx11.. I mean if it wasn't for progress we'd still be at dx1. ;)
